Through its referral services, the Center publishes opportunity listings, registers service hours, and provides recognition to WSU volunteers. Volunteer Involvement Program (VIP) The student led service projects include: Alternative Spring Break, Best Buddies, Bridging the Gap, Christmas Tree Express, Davis Campus Volunteers, Done in A Day, Environmental Projects, Family Services, Jump Start, Martin Luther King Day of Service, and Special Olympics Team. VIP is committed to involving students in meaningful service. Special Olympics Winter Games Students of WSU manage and coordinate the Winter Games for Utah Special Olympics. This is accomplished by involvement in the following programs: Intramurals, Informal Recreation, Sport Clubs and the Wilderness Recreation Center. Informal Recreation Location: Health and Physical Education Center (HPEC), Room 25 Telephone: 801-626-6476 or 801-626-6688 This program provides the campus community the opportunity to use a variety of facilities for drop-in recreation. Facilities include a swimming pool; eight (8) racquetball courts; seven (7) outdoor tennis courts; conditioning areas (weights/aerobics); gym floors (basketball / volleyball); a six-lane, 200-meter indoor track; aerobics classes; strength training; play fields; and an outdoor, one-mile exercise trail. Facility schedules are available at the HPEC complex. Current Weber State Wildcard required for entry. Intramurals Location: Health and Physical Education Center (HPEC), Room 24 Telephone: 801-626-7967 The objective of intramural programming is to promote social interaction and fellowship within Weber State through a wide range of competitive and recreational sports. Participation opportunities are offered in individual, dual, and team sports for both men and women. Many activities are also offered on a co-ed basis. Sport Clubs Location: Health and Physical Education Center (HPEC), Room 24 Telephone: 801-626-7967 The sport club program involves students, faculty, staff and community which compete against local, state, regional and national college and university teams in a variety of sports. Included are: billiards, racquetball, rodeo, skiing, soccer, fencing, swimming/water polo, ice hockey, men's rugby, women's rugby, bowling, volleyball, men's Lacrosse, women's Lacrosse, men's baseball, women's fast pitch softball and martial arts. The Center also coordinates outdoor recreational trips and instructional programs for individuals and organizations. Please call for additional information. Service programs may include reading for the visually impaired, note taking and interpreting for the hearing impaired, and scribe services for the mobility impaired. Other services include registration assistance, specialized tutoring, counseling, academic advisement, and personal development programs. Services for International Students Location: Student Service Center, Room 143 Telephone: 801-626-6853 This office offers help to international students in their adjustment to new and unfamiliar living and learning situations. Students can get information and counseling about academic, cultural, personal/social, and financial as well as immigration concerns. The office also provides orientation programs and planned activities to help international students have a satisfying university experience as well as to achieve personal and academic success. Services for Multicultural Students ,,-:..,;■:■:■::■ Location: Student Service Center, Room 150 Telephone: 801-626-7330 The Multicultural Center, in close cooperation with other academic and student assistance departments of the university, provides minority students academic and financial support in addition to job placement assistance. Leadership training, tutoring and scholarship information are available through the Center. Follow-up assistance is provided to help students with their academic and personal needs. Programs and Services for Non-traditional Students Location: Shepherd Union, Room 220 Programs and Services for Non-traditional students will provide a facility for students to study and socialize. Stuctured programs and services will be available to provide support for non-traditional students in a convenient location. This facility includes lounge space, computer stations and a kitchenette. The space and programs are designed to meet the needs that have resulted from an increased I growth of the non-traditional student population. Services for Women Siudents n Location: Student Service Center, Room 150 Telephone: 801-626-6090 Services of this Center are designed to provide a supportive environment to help students returning to pursue their education, meet challenges, and achieve their academic goals. The following services, programs, and workshops are offered to assist students: advisement, academic and personal counseling, life transition skills workshops, seminars, and scholarships. Veterans Affairs Location: Miller Administration Building, lower level, Room 103 Telephone: 801-626-6039 The Veterans Affairs Office (VAO) provides a variety of services designed to make education a successful experience for veterans. As the liaison between the university and the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, the office provides the necessary documentation for veterans to receive their educational benefits under the GI Bill. Additional services include academic advisement, class scheduling assistance, career planning assistance, academic skills assessment and help becoming oriented to a university atmosphere. The office also coordinates services for veterans through other service providers on campus for both academic and personal needs. Veterans Upward Bound Support^Sjjvices Location: Miller Adminstration 103 Telephone: 801-626-7173 Veterans Upward Bound Support Services is designed to increase the number of veterans who enter and graduate from college. It provides qualified veterans academic support services that assist them in developing the academic skills necessary to be successful in their post-secondary education experience.
