Show 28 • Serve approximately 75 students annually from five area high schools: Ben Lomand, Ogden, Clearfield, Layton and Northridge • Program purpose is to increase the number of non-traditional students who enter and graduate from college Academic Year Programming • Tutorial instruction in literature, composition, foreign languages, mathematics, computer enhancement training and general science courses in an after school setting at the five target high schools • Saturday morning study hall • Individual counseling for students with personal or academic concerns • Monthly social, cultural and recreational activities Six-Week Summer Residential Program • Program personnel offer a summer academic enhancement program held on the campus of Weber State University • Students live in the residence halls, attend enrichment classes and participate in social, cultural and recreational activities Veterans Affairs Telephone: 801-626-6039 Location: Miller Administration, Room 103 Veterans Affairs is the liaison between Weber State University and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for educational benefits for veterans and dependents who are eligible for the GI Bill. In addition, Veterans Affairs provides a variety of support services to assist in making education a successful experience for veterans. About Veterans Support Services • Provides benefits application assistance, certification for payment and problem resolution with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs • Provides funding for tutoring through the GI Bill • Provides individual educational assessment, advisement and program planning • Provides a veterans advocacy center at Weber State University Academic Enhancement Services • Provides assistance in choosing a degree program leading to a career • Coordinates campus services to assist in the assessment of and providing for academic needs, assistance with course planning, selection and registration • Helps veterans and their dependents identify sources of support for their educational needs Veterans Upward Bound Telephone: 801-626-7173 Location: Miller Administration, Room 103 Veterans Upward Bound provides qualified veterans academic support services that assist them in developing the academic skills necessary to be successful in their post-secondary education experience. About Veterans Upward Bound Support Services • Funded by federal grants to help veterans from Davis, Weber and Salt Lake counties • Targets low income, first generation or disabled college-bound veterans • Designed to increase the number of veterans who enter and graduate from college • Outreach centers located in Davis, Weber and Salt Lake counties • Coordinates with all campus services and activities for services for veteran students Academic Skills Development, Advisement & Assistance • Short-term remedial courses • Structured classes at Salt Lake Community College and Weber State University • Admissions, financial aid and career advisement • Assistance in securing support from available resources such as the Veterans Administration, veterans associations and various state and local agencies serving veterans Housing Services Telephone: 801-626-7275 Location: Promontory Tower The department serves primarily those students who choose to live on campus in a living/learning environment which includes peer counseling, social education, academic support, and planned activities. As an advocate for students, the Dean of Students is available to respond to general student concerns as well as to help students find solutions to specific problems. This office will help give direction to students who are uncertain where or how to find a response to a specific question, students with personal emergencies, or crisis issues. WSU Student Association (WSUSA) Telephone: 801-626-7641 Location: Shepherd Union, Suite 250 Weber State University Student Association (WSUSA) exists to serve and protect the interests and rights of students and to provide services, activities and programs for the enrichment of the university experience on campus and statewide. Opportunities for socializing, leadership development and representing the student voice to the administration are coordinated through the WSUSA office. Interested students will find many ways to become involved. An array of programs and activities are planned to appeal to every student. Listed below are the areas of WSUSA: 29 Programs and Activities • Homecoming • Wildcat Weekend • Community Parades • New Student Orientation • Election Celebration Legislative Branch There are 19 student senators who meet every Monday at 1:30 pm. Senate meetings are held to pass legislation dealing with campus issues. Senators meet with their area council on a regular basis to discuss the issues that will be brought to the senate meeting. Senators represent the academic colleges and special constituencies. Judicial Branch The Judicial Branch of WSUSA is known as the Student Advocate Council (SAC). All judicial power is vested in a Supreme Court of the WSUSA. The Supreme Court has the power to interpret the WSUSA Constitution upon petition, to determine the constitutionality of all legislation passed by the WSUSA Senate upon petition, and to perform any other judicial functions. Executive Branch The Executive Branch of Government has the specific power to execute the programs and expenditures of the WSUSA in accordance with their respective duties and responsibilities. The Executive Branch is made up of the president, two vice-presidents and the appointed officers.
