General Botany. A course in the history, structure, and functions of the main forms of plant life. Three lectures and two laboratory periods a week. Five quarter hours. BOTANY 2. Seed Plants. A study of the higher plants with special reference to structure and physiology. Three lectures and two laboratory periods a week. Five quarter hours. BOTANY 3. Plant Evolution and Relationships. Three lectures and two laboratory periods a week. Five quarter hours. BOTANY 4. Histology and Microtechnique. A course in the technique of preparing, straining, and mounting sections for microscopic examinations, including a study of plant tissues and tissue systems. One lecture and two laboratory periods a week. Prerequisites: Botany 1, 2, or 3. Three quarter hours WEBER COLLEGE 21 BOTANY 5. Plant Ecology. A study of plants in their relation to environment. Two lectures and one laboratory period a week. Prerequisites: Botany 1, 2, or 3. Three quarter hours. BOTANY 6. Spring Flora of the Wasatch. A study of the classification of local spring flowers and the principles of nomenclature. Training in the use of manuals is given. Two lectures and two laboratory periods a week. Four quarter hours. BOTANY 7. Plant Physiology. A study of the physiological processes of living plants. Three lectures and two laboratory periods a week. Five quarter hours. BOTANY 8. Conservation of Natural Resources. A field and lecture course designed to promote the wise use of our natural resources. Field trips to be arranged. Three quarter hours. Forestry FORESTRY 1. Elementary Forestry. A general survey of the profession of forestry and range, with emphasis on local and national aspects. Three quarter hours. FORESTRY 2. Fire Protection. A course designed to train students to meet forest fire problems in an efficient manner. Three quarter hours. FORESTRY 3. Dendrology. A study of the important American species of gymnospermscharacter, identification, economic importance, and distribution. Two lectures and one laboratory period a week. Field trips at the discretion of the instructor. Three quarter hours. Agriculture AGRICULTURE 1. Cereal Crops. This course treats the history, cultivation, production, and marketing of cereal crops, and furnishes information basic for judging and grading plant products. Must be preceded or accompanied by Botany or Chemistry. Three quarter hours. AGRICULTURE 2. Poultry Production. A study of breeds, incubation, brooding, housing, and feeding of poultry. Three quarter hours. (May not be given 1934-35.) AGRICULTURE 3. Animal Husbandry. A course in the practical selection and judging of commercial and breed types of horses, cattle, and sheep. Three quarter hours. |
