Theory of Gregg Shorthand. A course devoted to study and direct application of the fundamental principles of shorthand: phases, prefixes, suffixes, principles, devices for combining sounds, word-building, reading for sound and speed, shorthand penmanship. Three quarter hours. SHORTHAND 2. Advanced Theory. Shorthand theory is continued in this course. Practice in reading and writing, dictation and transcription of sentences and simple words. Three quarter hours. SHORTHAND 3. Review of Manual. Development of a broad shorthand vocabulary through dictation and transcription of business letters containing a variety of materials. Dictation: 60 to 80 words per minute. Prerequisite: Two years of high school shorthand or its equivalent. Three quarter hours. SHORTHAND 4. Review of Manual and Speed Studies. Development in transcription and dictation at 80 to 100 words a minute. Three quarter hours. SHORTHAND 5. Advanced Phrasing. This course is devoted to phrasing, study of the shorthand dictionary, and dictation and transcription of business correspondence. 100 to 120 words a minute. Three quarter hours. SHORTHAND 6. Advanced Phrasing and Dictionary Study. A continuation of Shorthand 5, with dictation and transcription of business correspondence at 120 to 150 words a minute. Three quarter hours. SHORTHAND 7.
