Show 66 WEBER COLLEGE Requirements For Certification Five-Year Certification of Elementary School Grade A five-year certificate of elementary school grade is granted: (1) To an applicant who has completed a four-year high school course and two years of approved normal school or college work. (2) To an applicant who has taught successfully in Utah at least two years and who has completed at least 63 quarter hours of approved normal school or college work, including the pre-scribed work in English, Education and Physical and Health Education required for the life diploma. The five-year certificate under provision 2 is not renewable but is subject to a one-year extension, provided the holder completes at least 7 1/2 quarter hours of approved normal school or college work for each extension. (3) That his normal college work includes 6 quarter hours of credit in physical and health education, 9 quarter hours in English, at least 6 of which must be in English composition; and 27 quarter hours in education. (4) That his work in education shows at least 10 quarter hours of credit in training and 3 quarter hours in each of the following: Elementary School Curriculum, Organization and Administration of Elementary Schools, Educational Psychology, Method of teaching Elementary Subjects The additional credit in education may be selected from the following subjects: Principles of Education, Primary Methods, History of Education, School Management, Psychology of Childhood, Philosophy of Education, Social Education, Rural Education, Educational Tests and Measurements. Provisions adopted at a meeting of the State Board of Education held October 10, 1932: (1) The issuance of a two-year provisional certificate instead of a five-year certificate to beginning teachers. (2) The issuance of a five-year certificate to applicants whose provisional certificates have expired, provided the applicants have shown themselves to be successful teachers. (3) The five-year certificate to continue in force as long as there is no question as to the teaching ability of the applicant. (4) For the elementary certificate, three years of normal school or college work to be required of beginning teachers by 1936.
