Show 70 WEBER COLLEGE THE DEPARTMENT OF SOCIOLOGY AND PHILOSOPHY WALTER CURTIS NEVILLE It is recommended that a student pursuing a major in Sociology complete Sociology 1, 2, 4, and 5 or 6 or 8. A student pursuing a major in Philosophy should complete Philosophy 1, 2, and 5. COURSES OF INSTRUCTION Sociology SOCIOLOGY 1. Elementary Principles of Sociology. A study of terminology, social processes, and social institutions. Five quarter hours. SOCIOLOGY 2. Social Psychology. A study of human nature and behavior. This course has to do with the origin and development of the personality and treats principles of mental hygiene. Five quarter hours. SOCIOLOGY 4. Introduction to Social Problems. Consideration is given to such basic problems as poverty, crime, feeblemindedness, unemployment, and mental diseases. Five quarter hours. SOCIOLOGY 5. Rural Sociology. A general study of village and farm life. Five quarter hours. SOCIOLOGY 6. Urban Sociology. A general study of city life and metropolitan communities. Five quarter hours. SOCIOLOGY 8. The Family. A historical study of family life, marriage, and divorce. Problems of the home, particularly marital adjustments and family relationships, are considered and dis-cussed. Five quarter hours. SOCIOLOGY 10. Social Guidance. This course has to do WEBER COLLEGE 71 with the adjustment of the student to college life and problems, the improvement of study, the choice of a vocation, and the understanding of personality. Two quarter hours. Philosophy PHILOSOPHY 1. Elementary Social Ethics. An approach to the problem of social ethics. Application of Ethics theory is made to social institutions and problems. Five quarter hours. PHILOSOPHY 2. Introduction to Philosophy. A course designed to introduce the student to fundamental problems in philosophy. Consideration is given historical backgrounds and development of major philosophic theories and movements. Five quarter hours. (Not given 1934-35.) PHILOSOPHY 5. Logic. A study of the primary methods of thinking: inductive and deductive processes. Five quarter hours. |
