34 will give the student instructions as to which counselor to contact for the interview. The student will be held responsible to make this contact. The registration of such students will be limited to fifteen hours, exclusive of physical education. Students on academic warning will not be considered eligible to participate in social or service club activities. (See Eligibility regulations.) Students on academic warning whose grade-point for that quarter is below the level specified for academic warning will be placed on academic prohation. Also, those students who fail to maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 1.0 are automatically placed on academic probation. Students on academic probation must register with the Guidance Committee. They will be limited in their registration to fourteen hours of credit. Their course of study must be approved by the Director of Guidance and the Division Head concerned. Students on academic probation who fail to earn a 1.0 in their next quarter of study will be suspended from the college. Such students may appeal their case to the Academic Standards Committee and may be admitted if their course of study is approved by the committee and the Division Head concerned. Any exception to the above rules must be approved by the Dean of Faculty. Students who fail to maintain the minimum scholastic standards established in any division of the college may be refused registration or dismissed from the program. They may still, however, participate in other courses of study in which they meet the required standards. All students needing or desiring counsel are invited to use the services of the Guidance Office, their Division Head, or instructors. Weber College is anxious that each student attain the highest success possible. Social Standards. A student attending Weber College is expected to maintain a high standard of moral conduct. Forfeiture of the privilege to attend the college may result from unsatisfactory conduct. If for any reason it is felt that an injustice has been done, the student may appeal to the Standards Committee for a hearing. The Committee may then recommend to the Administration that the student be reinstated if the Committee decides that the case warrants such action. College Attitude: A student enters college through choice rather than by law requirements. He is arriving at the age of maturity where good judgment and ability to make wise choices are most desirable. For these reasons he is given considerably more freedom than he has had in the past. Numerous rules and regulations governing this new degree of freedom are purposely omitted. It is presumed that college students are capable of acting as men and women. The vast majority of the students demonstrate their abilities to profit by these liberties. It is only the few who ostracize themselves because of their immature judgments. 35 ELIGD3ILTY Eligibility rules apply to students who participate in school activities, to members of social and service clubs, and to recipients of Weber College scholarships. To be eligible to represent the College in an activity, a student must (1) be a graduate of a standard high school, or have earend at least fifteen units in high school studies, or meet the entrance requirements by passing the G. E. D. tests; (2) be registered for at least ten quarter hours of college work; and (3) have completed satisfactorily ten hours of work in the previous quarter of attend- If a student is not passing in ten quarter hours of college work, he becomes ineligible to participate in activities. Eligibility is affirmed twice during the quarter, at the end of the fourth and eighth week. Eligibility for social and service clubs is maintained according to the regulations of the Inter-club Council. A student must (1) be registered for a minimum of ten quarter hours of college work; and (2) not be on academic warning or probation during the previous quarter of attendance. Social and service club members who are placed on academic warning or probation are declared ineligible to participate in any club activities during the new quarter. Directors of opera, drama, debate, and yearbook must file a list of participants before any position, part, or office is officially given to a student. In case of an opera or a play, eligibility is in effect for the duration of the production. In all other cases, eligibility must be affirmed at the end of the fourth and eighth weeks. An eligibility committee composed of faculty and students will check the participants of the different activities against the list of probationary students and students doing unsatisfactory work furnished by the Guidance Office and the Registrar's Office. Students who participate in inter-school athletics are governed by the regulations of the Intermountain Junior College Athletic Conference. STUDENT LIABILITY Weber College is not in any way liable for an athlete's injuries or illnesses that result from participation in the activities sponsored by the College. It is assumed that one who engages in athletics has received permission from parent or guardian to participate and to accept full responsibility. The College is not in any way liable for student injuries which may result from activities on field trips, in shop, or laboratory class work. Students are required and so instructed to request specific operational information before proceeding with the use of equipment. STUDENT GUIDANCE SERVICE The objective of the guidance service is to assist the student to make intelligent decisions in personal and academic problems, and to plan wisely for profitable vocational experience as well as rich and satisfying living.
