Figuring qualities of building materials, their cost, cost of handling, labor required for a four room house. Individual instruction. Two quarter hours. 62. Blueprint Reading and Estimating. (Advanced). A continuation of elementary estimating. Making construction reports and comparing with estimates. Individual instruction. Two laboratory periods a week. Two quarter hours. ENGINEERING 54. Photogrammetry and Photo Interpretation. Make spatial measurements such as location, direction, length, size, area and volume, by means of photography. Four quarter hours. PHOTOGRAPHY 71. Photo OB Coloring. A course in the technique of transparent oil coloring of portraits and other subjects. Three hours demonstration and practice per week. One quarter hour. Rabe 72. Photo Oil Coloring. A continuation of Photo 71, includes heavy brush oils for those students sufficiently advanced. Three hours demonstration and practice per week. Prerequisite: Photo 71. Rabe DIVISION OF SOCIAL SCIENCES The Division of Social Sciences offers courses in the departments of General Education for the Social Sciences, Anthropology, History and Political Science, Orientation, Phiosophy, Phychology and Education, and Sociology. Many courses in the division will be taught in the Evening School. In addition, the following courses may be offered. HISTORY AND POLITICAL SCH5NCE 14. The Communist Problem. A vital description of the men, ideals, events and objectives leading to the growth of Communism and our current problems. Three quarter hours. 51. Municipal Administration. This course in management training is designed to produce skills for handling managerial problems in accordance with sound principles. Five quarter hours. 52. Municipal Planning. Planning the effective utilization of city resources, and facilities, with particular emphasis on transit lines, sewage system, parks and playgrounds, public buildings, zoning and water supply. Five quarter hours. 207 53. Municipal Personnel. Practical analysis of municipal personnel problems. The course deals with organization, classification, training, promotion, disciplining, and paying city employees. Five quarter hours. 54. Municipal Finance. Practical analysis of the operation and techniques of municipal finance. The course will study local problems in connection with revenue, budget making, accounting, assessments, purchasing and storage, long-term financing, and other financial controls. Five quarter hours. 56. Municipal Fire. Examination of the important fire safety principles and use of equipment for effective operation will be studied. Five quarter hours. 57. Municipal Public Works. Practical analysis of procedures and techniques for the efficient management of municipal public work3. Particular attention in given to streets, sewage, water works, and airport operation. Five quarter hours. 58. Municipal Recreation. Practical analysis of the planning and operation of community recreation. The history of local problems will be noted. Planning for city wide participation is emphasized. Five quarter hours. 61. Police Department Organization. The organization and op- peration of the police department is studied, to promote efficient supervision and planning of handling criminal investigations, traffic problems and other major problems of public safety. Five quarter hours. 62. Criminal Investigation. Instruction in searching the scene of a crime using scientific criminal detection aids. Three quarter hours. 63. Crime Prevention. Correction and rehabilitation procedures for minors and adults. Three quarter hours. 64. Traffic Investigation. Instruction in how to make a thorough and accurate investigation and report of traffic accidents. Three quarter hours. 65. Mechanics of Arrests. Legal procedures for arrest and seizure of evidence with and without a warrant and the consequences of an officer's misconduct. Three quarter hours. 66. Report Writing. Technique of writing an effective police report. Three quarter hours. 67. Public Relations for Police. A study of the police department's problems in maintaining pleasant public relations in civil and criminal affairs. Three quarter hours. 71. Field Inspection for Building Inspectors. A course designed for building inspectors and others who may be interested. The problems covered include blueprints, building codes, final inspections, existing buildings, fire safety, etc. Two quarter hours. 72. Public Relations for Building Inspectors. A course designed to meet the needs of building inspectors both in the office and in the field. Special emphasis is given to appearance, manners, working with others, and use of the telephone, etc. Two quarter hours. |
