Show 210 When the letter "A", "B" or "C" follows the basic number of a course shown in the catalog, it indicates that three quarters of work will be required to complete that phase of the course. Example: Auto Body 71 A.B.C. indicates that the student can register for 9 quarter hours in Auto Body 71, i.e. 71A, 3 hours; 71B, 3 hours; 71C, 3 hours. After completion of Auto Body 71 AB.C. the student registers for Auto Body 72 A.B.C, etc. AERONAUTICS 71. Jet Engine Theory. A general understanding of jet-engine theory and components, principles are applied to modern gas-turbine engines. Five quarter hours. 72. Jet Engine Theory. Cont. of Jet Engine Theory 71. Application of the principles are made by disassembling and reassembling modern jet engines. Four quarter hours. 81. Rocket Engine Theory. A Course on the technical level. Prerequisites: Algebra, Plane Geometry, and Trigonometry and/or equivalent. Principles of Rocket Propulsion related to hardware. Five quarter hours. AUTO BODY TECHNOLOGY 71-AJ3.C. Fender Repair. Training in the fundamental principles and practices of roughing out metal, metal bumping, buffing, sanding, leading, shrinking, welding, and the metal finishing of fenders. Three quarter hours. Autumn. 72-A.B.C. Automotive Refinishing. Instruction and training in the care and use of spray equipment, preparing the surfaces for refinishing; fundamental procedures in priming, surfacing, color matching, and blending touch-up, stripping and the application of lacquer and synthetic enamels. Three quarter hours. Winter. 73-AJB.C. Automotive Body Repair. Training the placement and repair of body parts, such as cowl, panel, trunk, lid rocker, sills, side, floor, top and door panels; also checking and alignment of the automobile body. Three quarter hours. Spring. 74-A.B.C. Automotive Body. Training in the replacement, repair and lubrication of the auto body mechanism, such as window and ventillator regulators, door and seat adjusters, and windshield wiper mechanism. Aligning, straightening and servicing the automobile chassis, including axles, front wheel suspension, steering gears, springs, drive shaft, and brakes. Three quarter hours. Winter. 76-AJB.C. Automotive Trim and Upholstering. Training in the repair, cleaning, and replacement of the auto body trim such as floor covering, headlining, door and quarter trim pads, wind lace and trim moulding, and seat cushions; also, the graining and refinishing of the dash and garnish mouldings. Continuation of Auto Body 77. Three quarter hours. AUTO SERVICE AND REP Ant 71-A.B.C. Automatic Drive Transmissions. A course in the theory, construction, methods of overhaul, and trouble-shooting of the automatic transmissions in present-day cars. Classroom work consists of the lecture, use of films, manufacturers charts, etc. Units of each kind of drive are disassembled, inspected and reassembled according to manufacturer's recommended procedure in the shop. (A—Fordomatic) (B—Hydramatic) (C—Dyna-Flo) Three quarter hours. 72-A.B.C. Automotive Electricity. A course in theory, construction and servicing storage battery, generators and their control systems, wiring systems, ignition system and starting motors and their controls. Three quarter hours. 74-A.B.C. Carburetion. A course in the theory, construction and methods of servicing of carburetors and other carburetion units. Three quarter hours. 76-A.B.C. Motor Reconditioning. A course in the theory of de- design, construction, methods of repair of the automotive engine. Consists of classroom study of texts, films and charts. Shop work consists of equipment and method of parts reworking demonstrations. Three quarter hours. 78-A.B.C. Motor Tune Up. A course designed to train apprentices in operations necessary to restore to factory specification the following units; Ignition, generators and controls, battery, starter, carburetor and fuel pump and compression with the use of tune up equipment. Three quarter hours. 79-A.B.C. Wheel Alignment. A course consisting of the theory, construction, methods of adjusting and correcting all types of front wheel suspension. Classroom work and shop work covering wheel balancing, steering gear service and other related parts gives the student a good general background of this phase of automotive service. Three quarter hours. Automotive Brakes Systems. Includes power brakes, hydraulic principles as it applies to brakes. Operation and reconditioning methods of all types of brake systems. Three quarter hours. DD3SEL 71. Automotive Diesel Repair and Service. A study of the mechanical construction of two-cycle and four-cycle Diesel engines used in automotive service. The course treats problems of overhauling the Diesel engine, its maintenance and operation. Three quarter hours each quarter. 72.
