The history of the earth, from its theoretical origin to the present as interpreted from the rocks and their fossil contents. North America, particularly Utah and the adjacent areas, is emphasized. Sight recognition of the important rock-forming and other minerals through class discussion and laboratory work, and the indentification of the common rocks of the earth's crust by mineral content, association and occurrence. Fundamentals of crystallog-graphy, and the identification, and sight recognition of the more important rock minerals by physical, chemical and blowpipe tests.
