ATHLETICS Before students may represent Weber State College in intercollegiate athletics they must comply with the eligibility regulations adopted by the Board of Trustees of the college and/or any conference with which the college may be affiliated. IV. STANDARDS AND TOTAL WORK LOAD Students should avoid overloading themselves to a point that their performance suffers. In general they should expect to study two hours for each hour of lecture. Care should be taken to keep the total work load, including outside work, at a reasonable level. No student should plan to work more than 20 hours a week on outside work if he is taking 15 hours of credit. Social StandardsA student attending Weber State College is expected to maintain a high standard of moral conduct. He enters college through choice. He is not required to attend by law. Forfeiture of the privilege to attend may result from unsatisfactory conduct. Numerous rules and regulations are purposely omitted. Students are expected to demonstrate maturity in their judgments. Most students do this. It is only the few who ostracize themselves because of their immaturity. Appropriate DressAppropriate dress is expected for the campus and in all buildings. Women students should wear dresses unless they are going to or from some special activity justifying other apparel. Use of LiquorWeber State College does not permit the use of alcoholic beverages either on the campus or at college-sponsored functions off the campus. Any violation of this rule is subject to disciplinary action. SmokingSmoking is prohibited in all buildings on the campus. Provision for AppealAny student who has been suspended or declared ineligible for academic or social reasons will have the right to appeal his case in writing to the Standards Committee. His appeal should include a statement of any extenuating circumstances. 42 Graduation Weber State College grants the degrees of Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, and the titles of Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, a Certificate of Completion, and a Certificate of Proficiency. For a student to be admitted to candidacy for any degree or title, his scholastic record must show that he has satisfied the entrance requirements and that he can fulfill the requirements for graduation upon the completion of the courses for which he has registered. No credit obtained prior to the time his college standing was established may be used toward graduation. The Graduation Committee may make exceptions in individual cases. Grade RequirementsA student's scholastic record must show that he has an average of not less than C, an average grade point of at least 2.0 in all his registered work. Credit RestrictionsNot more than 30 quarter hours of D grade credit may be applied toward graduation. However, the Divisions may reject any or all D grade work toward the Major or Minor Requirements. Not more than twenty-four of the total hours required for the baccalaureate degree may be correspondence credit. All "incompletes" must be removed at least four weeks prior to graduation. Residence Requirement A candidate for any degree or title must be registered at the college during at least one quarter following the last commencement prior to his graduation. Change in Graduation RequirementsA candidate is held to the requirements applicable to the class with which he is graduated. Application for GraduationA candidate must file a written application obtained at the Registrar's Office and should file it in that office not later than the sixth week of the Autumn Quarter. No applications will be considered within the last few weeks before commencement unless special permission is given by the Registrar. A candidate is required to be present at Commencement Exercises. Any exceptions are made by the President of the college. Honors at GraduationA candidate whose average grade point in all registered work is 3.5 or above, and who has completed at least 90 credit hours at Weber State College, is graduated with honors. His name will appear in the commencement program. Honors for commencement are determined during the Spring Quarter and do not reflect final grades for that quarter. Payment of FeesThe student must have cleared all college financial obligations. 43 |
