Show 92 The work is planned to give experiences which develop understandings and skills with special emphasis toward making better homes and strengthening family living. The curriculum gives pre-professional training for those who wish to continue a major in the following areas at a senior institution: Home Economics Teaching, Foods and Nutrition, including Dietetics, Extension Service, Nutrition Specialist; Child Development, including Nursery School, Kindergarten and Elementary Teaching; Clothing and Textiles, including Textile Research, Merchandising, Clothing Specialist; Management and Equipment Specialist. A well equipped nursery school which serves as a child development laboratory gives practical experience to students interested in any field involving human relations. The Home Economics Club. The Home Economics Club is a professional club whose purpose is strengthening the area of home and family life and fostering social relationships among the members. Regular meetings are conducted and special projects planned. The club is affiliated with the State and National college clubs of the American Home Economics Association. The club is open to all women students on campus. Food Selection and Preparation. The basic principles of selection, preparation of food for attractive, economical and well balanced meals; care, use, and selection of household equipment; storage and preservation of foods. Efficient work habits are stressed. Three lectures and two laboratory periods a week. Four quarter hours. Autumn Winter, Spring. Jacobs 3. Meal Management for the Family. Practical experience in planning, preparing, and serving meals for the family and for special occasions. Efficient use of time and equipment; correct table service techniques of a successful hostess. Two lectures and two laboratory periods a week. Prerequisite: Home Economics 2. Three quarter hours. Winter, Spring. Jacobs 5. Food Preparation for Men. A practical course for men students who desire information and skill in preparing nutritious, quick, inexpensive, and attractive meals.
