Home Furnishings. This course is planned to help the students understand the use of the principles of art in the decoration of the home, to gain information in the selection and purchasing of carpets, window decorations, furniture, accessories and appliances for their future homes. Construction of lamp shades, slip covers, and upholstering furniture. Two quarter hours. Spring. Mum ford 18. Clothes and Personality. Self improvement and self expression through grooming, selection, and styling of clothes and accessories. Two quarter hours. Autumn. Mumford 20. Personal Development. Clothing the College Girl. A basic course in clothing construction techniques in which emphasis is placed upon suitability, becomingness, design. Three quarter hours. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Mumford 95 22. Clothing Selection and Construction. Pattern study on fittings, altering, and techniques of design. A garment will be constructed from a basic pattern. Prerequisite: Home Economics 21. A study of practical problems to selection and construction of children's clothing and care, including renovation of clothing. Three quarter hours. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Mumford 24. Textiles. Fibers, yarns, fabrics, and finishes as they relate to the homemaker's problems of buying, use, and care. Three quarter hours. Autumn. Mumford 27. Pattern Construction. A study of basic patterns for individual needs, stressing principles and techniques in fitting, altering and construction. Three quarter hours. (Evening course, one quarter hour.) Spring. Mumford 31. Family Health and Infant Care. Designed to give the student and understanding of mother and baby care with experience in handling the baby and developing simple nursing techniques to the family situation. Two quarter hours. Designed to help men and women students understand attitudes and relationships in marriage and to develop an appreciation for enriched family life. Includes a study of personality adjustments in marriage, preparation for parenthood and parent-child relationships. Three quarter hours. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Lehner 35. Child Development (Open to all college men and women.) Designed to develop an understanding of human behavior and relationships. Discussions on child growth. Observation of children in the Nursery School. Four quarter hours. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Lehner 36. Experience with Children. A weekly two-hour laboratory experience in the Nursery School, and a one-hour lecture and discussion period. Offers students the opportunity to follow up observations and theory from Home Economics 35 with a living application. Prerequisite: Home Economics 35. Two, three, or four quarter hours. Autumn, Winter, Spring. Williams 87. Child Development Laboratory. (Prerequisite: Enrollment of a child in the Nursery School and concurrent enrollment in Home Economics 38.)
