Randall, ‘49, former chairman of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, has been named a faculty associate of the Indiana University Graduate School of Business. Dr. Charles Victor Bunderson, ‘56, Associate Professor of Educational Psychology and Computer Science and is presently serving as Consulting Editor, Journal of Psychology at the University of Texas. He is known nationally as an authority on the use of computers for instructional purposes and has written many articles and traveled extensively lecturing and providing workshops on the use of computers in instruction. THOMAS G. CARPENTER, ‘58, has been promoted to major in the U.S. Air Force. He is presently stationed at Offutt AFB, Nebraska and holds a senior navigator rating. PFC KENT D. OYLER, ‘68, has received the Army Commendation Medal for heroism while serving in Vietnam. AIRMAN STEPHEN L. RICHEY, ‘65, has been assigned to Sheppard AFB, Texas for training as a medical services specialist. JAMES S. MCGARRY, ‘68, has been commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force and has been assigned to Webb AFB, Texas for pilot training. AIRMAN WARREN F. BRANNEN, ‘69, has graduated from the U.S. Air Force radar operator course at Keesler AFB, Miss. and has received his new assignment to Malmstrom AFB, Montana. AIRMAN ROBERT W. WRIGHT, ‘69, has been assigned to Sheppard AFB, Texas for training as a dental specialist. SGT. RALPH J. JAMES MCEWEN, ‘68, has been assigned to Vietnam for duty with the military police corps. U.S. AIR FORCE CAPTAIN MICHAEL S. WEBB, ‘64, has been decorated with the Air Medal at Pleiku AB, Vietnam, for air action in Southeast Asia. U.S. AIR FORCE 1ST LT. JAMES R. LARISON, is presently stationed at Travis AFB, California where he is serving as a psychiatrist at David Grant, USAF Medical Center. Frank L. Salimeno, O.D., ‘65, recently received his Doctorate degree in Optometry from the Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, Oregon. He will now enter the Army Medical Service Corps., serving with the rank of Captain. He is married to the former Judy Madsen who graduated from WSC in 1966. Dr. Ralph B. Foley, ‘57, after serving three years military service in Germany has announced the opening of a general surgery practice in Ogden, Utah. His wife is the former Joyce Killpack. James F. Jackson, ‘60, was recently granted a doctorate degree in nuclear engineering from the University of California in L.A. He has accepted a staff position in the Reactor Physics Division of Argonne National Laboratory, Idaho Falls, Idaho. Keith A. Anderson, ‘68, has received his masters degree in elementary education from Utah State University. He will continue teaching in Riverdale. James R. Country Club DEATHS HARVEY LEE STONE, ‘48, of Ogden, Utah, died December 26, 1969, after a lingering illness. He was the merchandise manager at Fred M. Nye Company and was well known throughout the area as an athlete and softball pitcher. (Age 45) HORACE A. KNIGHT, ‘23, of Plain City, Utah, died December 12, 1969, of a heart attack. He attended the old Weber Academy. (Age 69) THOMAS V. WARNER, ‘62, of Ogden, Utah, died January 3, 1970. He graduated from Ogden High School and Weber State College. (Age 28) GARY DUANE STATON, ‘67, of San Bernardino, California, formerly of Ogden, was killed October 25, 1969, in a motorcycletruck accident. He was serving in the U.S. Air Force at the time of death. (Age 21) RONALD D. CAMPBELL, Utah, died November 14, wounds. (Age 26) ‘66, of Clearfield, 1969, of gunshot BESSIE W. HAMMON, of Ogden, Utah, died December 14, 1969, of natural causes. She attended the old Weber Academy and graduated from the Newspaper Institute of America. (Age 65) DONALD E. TIDWELL, ‘68, Utah, was killed January 4, automobile accident. He was an Hill Air Force Base and a member National Guard. (Age 23) of Layton, 1970 in an employee of of the Utah JERRY A. CARLSON, of Midvale, Utah, formerly of Roy, was killed January 4, 1970, in an automobile accident. He was a member of the Army Reserve. (age 25) VILATE formerly pene 2) S. ARNOLD, of Ogden, Utah, of San Francisco, California, died 18, 1969, of natural causes. (Age MERRIBEL BRAMWELL STEVENSON, died December 18, 1969, of natural causes. She had been very active in civic and church work. She attended the old Weber Academy and was a former queen of the Pioneer Days Celebration. One of the first attendees of the old Weber Stake Academy, Mrs. Stevenson was honored at the first Emeritus Alumni Chapter banquet in 1968. (Age 92) While recognized as a strong community college, Weber State students are also represented by nearly every state in the union and many foreign countries as well. At the present time 24 students from approximately 10 nations bring a diversity of culture, background and interest to the Wildcat compus. The recent emergence of the International Students Club has provided great interest and fulfills a distinct purpose in assisting the foreign student in certain problems relating to his education, acceptance, registration, housing, etc. Among those nations represented on the Weber State campus are India, Japan, Kuwait, Pakistan, Thailand, Chili, Hong Kong, Iraq, Laos, as well as Canada and England. Organized for the purpose of promoting friendliness and understanding among visiting students, the International Club acts as a source of information to acquaint student members with the social and educational opportunities at Weber State. The organization also provides an effective way of disseminating important information to international students and assists in the welfare of foreign students on campus by welcoming and acquainting those students to the Ogden area and the Weber State campus. The president of the organization is Pakistani student, Wizarat Rizvi, who desires to promote the organization whose ideals foster interest, understanding and tolerance among mankind everywhere. Some of the activities engaged in by the organization includes an international week to be held this year from the 11th through 17th of April at which time entertainment, talent show, foods, booths and novelties will be displayed. A banquet open to the public will be held as the concluding event of the week. Quarterly get togethers, socials and picnics provide fellowship and a sense of belonging to the group. |
