Show Merk Evans Austad © Bead Mark Evans Austad, prominent broadcaster and forme Weber College Student Body President will act as nation chairman for the 1970 Weber State Alumni Annual Givin Campaign. Mr. Austad is presently Vice President f public affairs of Metromedia Inc. in Washington D. C. Mr. Austad attended Weber College in 1939-41 and we Student Body President in 1940-41. While at Weber } was active in speech activities, being named winner of National Collegiate Oratorical Contest and first pla winner in the National Extemporaneous Speaking conte§ In the fall of 1940, Mark married Lola Brown of Ogdi a lat: Mr. Austad, Vice President Agnew also a student at Weber College. After leaving Weber, Mr. Austad went to work for radio in Salt Lake City and left there to enter the milita service. During the war he operated the radio station: Walter Reed Army Hospital in Washington D. C. where did a weekly show with Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt. Up his discharge in 1946 he was employed by the Associat Broadcasting System in Washington D.C. For fifteen years, he did the morning breakfast broade: over CBS in Washington, replacing Arthur Godfrey. Fo years, he did the commercials on CBS, coast-to-coast,1 the “I Love Lucy” and the “Our Miss Brooks” shows. h Austad appeared for 10 years, daily, over CBSWashington, and 5 years on a one-half hour week program on Metromedia, Washington. Now, occasionally appears on Metromedia news ins introducing Washington newsmakers in addition wrestling Washington problems for Metromedia, Inc. — He has traveled extensively with five trips to Africa, a¢ the Congo on a hunting trip, 2 weeks with Dr. A Schweitzer in Gabon, Africa, and has traveled Eu seven times. He has traveled down the Amazon River top to bottom. 3 He has filmed and traveled from Hammerfest, Norwa} Capetown, South Africa. He accompanied Vice Pre Humphrey to the Far East for the Inaugural of Presi Marcos of the Phillipines. Mr. Austad also reportet Inauguration of the President of Mexico. , Mr. Austad is in constant demand as a lecturer and} of Ceremonies for civic and service groups # community, and is the only Washingtonian ever HIV) speak eight times before the 12,000 membership’t National Geographic Society in Constitution Hall} addressed such groups as the Los Angeles Town is San Francisco Commonwealth Club; Advertising © Detroit, San Francisco, Los Angeles and a Rotary Clubs from New York to San Diego af a Seattle and Houston; and the student bodies of B® States Naval Academy, Stanford, Yale, Bri We University and Maryland University; as well as Bradley Colleges. For 13 years he has acted as He of Ceremonies for the Defense Supply Ce el Conventions; and, during 1968, was Mastet a | \ | ES | for the National Postal Forum; and Poni American Bar Association Meeting in 5t oust dozens of national and local convention 8F Mr. Austad with the late Dr. Albert Schweitzer First \inmual Func Drive. He is on the Executive Board of the Washington, D. C., Chapter of the American Red Cross, and has recently been elected a member of the Board of Trustees of the American Automobile Association Foundation as well as being elected, for the second time, to the Public Affairs Committee of the National Chamber of Commerce. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Washington Metropolitan Board of Trade; a member of the Washington Rotary Club; a member of U-.S.O. Goodwill Industries; a member of the Advisory Board and for 2 years was the Chairman of the Cherry Blossom Festival. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Holton-Arms School, and an advisor to the President of WNYW, a world-wide short wave broadcasting station. The most recent honor accorded Mr. Austad was his selection as Chairman of the Inaugural Ball Committee when President Nixon was inaugurated in January, 1969. He quarterbacked the largest and most successful party ever held, 35,000 people paid one and a half-million dollars to inaugurate President Nixon. Mr. Austad escorted the President and Mrs. Nixon, introducing them to the revellers at 7 different Inaugural Balls. Another recent honor given him was as Moderator before the United States Chamber of Commerce during a panel discussion by 6 of the new Cabinet members.
