This program involves nearly 900 boys and Leagues from Tooele to Ogden, He resides in Ogden with his wife Betty. 48 - IDA D. DRAAYER, a librarian at South Junior High has been named President of the Weber County Library Association. She is formerly Secretary Treasurer of the Association and has her Masters degree from the Utah State University. °67 - LINDSAY S. CURTIS received his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the College of Dentistry at the University of Nebraska. He will enter the Army for 2 years and return to Ogden. Married to the former Kathy Larsen of Brigham City, they have one girl. °67 - BRENT E. CHECKETTS, a Bountiful, received his Master of Arts State. HUGGINS, chief chemist of Murdock Machine and Engineering Co. has received his Ph.D. in metallurgy with a chemistry minor from University of Utah. HESS received his Doctorate during the Spring commencement services held at Washington State University, Pullman, Washington. His doctorate was in plant pathology. 48 - DEE HUTZLEY, Commerce and President Inc., he has been selected Sigma Pi, National Business President of the Ogden Chamber of and General Manager ot Wangsgards, as “Businessman of the Year” by Delta Fraternity. °67 - TIM MORRIS received his M.E.D. from the University of Utah in 1970 and is teaching Social Studies at Walquist Junior ae in Ogden. He is married to the former Tamara Clifton, class of ’68 49 - W. RON ROSS, (alias Fireman Frank with KCPX Television in Salt Lake City) has received his Ph.D. in theatre from University of Utah. He is an Assistant Professor at Utah State University in Logan and has taught acting, ballet, speaking, oral interpretation and announcing. °67 - GARY L. ROGERS graduated from the University of Utah with a medical degree this spring, and he is planning on interning in Seattle, Washington. He is married to the former Joyce V. Reeder of Salt Lake City. DIEU has been named Weber County personnel director; he will be responsible for direction of personnel affairs for some 550 county employees. He was pethandis manager of the Bon Marche for the past 12 years in igden. °55 - SANDRA SEAMONS, Ogden woman has earned national and international recognition as a song composer with her most successful composition “Walk Through This World With Me” rated Number 1 in Country Music. She is a member of the Songwriters Hall of Fame and has written many songs sung by noted singers. °55 - DR. ROBERT K. WOLTHUIS has been named Administrative Assistant to Senator Wallace F. Bennett. He received his Doctorate in International affairs from John Hopkins U. where he was a teaching assistant. 59 - HARRISON M. DAVIS, Assistant Professor in Humanities at Brigham Young University has been honored by the National University Extension Association for a home study course cited as one of the top correspondence courses in the country. *59 - RICHARD RICHARDS, an Ogden attorney is now deputy chairman, a full time officer, of the Republican National Committee. THURGOOD, Biology teacher at Weber High has received a $1,000 stipend from the National Science Foundation to attend the Aspen Field Ecology Institute sponsored by San Diego State in Aspen, Colorado this summer. He is married to former Linda Fowers. 68 - PATRICE WALDER attended Weber, graduated from University of Utah this spring and will enter Syracuse University with a fellowship of over $2,400 and study psychology. Her plans mee counseling at a summer camp in New York for disturbed children. SEVENTIES °70 - JERRY BOMMER, a physical organic chemistry doctorate candidate was one of nine graduate students to be awarded a graduate fellowship valued at $2,400 to complete his work at Utah State University. "70 - LEON POVEY working on his graduate degree at the University of Utah has been elected to the advisory committee to the Dean of the Graduate School of Social Work. Currently employed with the Weber County Mental Health Clinic; his wife is former Marline Martinson, they have 6 children. 70 - DEAN H. WALKER presently serving as a captain in the US. Air Force as a member of the rotating dental internship program received his degree in dentistry from the University of Michigan. He is now stationed at Andrews AFB, Washington D.C. with his wife, former Luan Chandler. °71 - TIM AHERN graduating Cum Laude with majors in both speech and political science has received a fellowship from the University of lowa that pays full tuition plus a stipend of $2,900 per year. °71 - DIANNE CLEGG has been awarded a teaching assistantship valued at an excess of $1,500 by Brigham Young University. Her major is Spanish and she was an honor scholastic student and a member of Lambda lota Tau, an international honor literature society. MEMORIUM RAY C. BARNARD, Perry, Utah, age 46, died May 1971 of an apparent heart attack. He was formerly with Northrop Aircraft Co. in Hawthorne, Calif. and was a graduate in 1946. WARREN E. BRANCH, Roy, age 50, died June, 1971 of a heart ailment. He was a lead equipment specialist at Hill Air Force Base and just retired in May. RICHARD LEWIS BRIGGS, age 26 of Syracuse, died June, 1971 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle-car accident. He had attended Weber, was a graduate of Utah State University and President of his fraternity, Delta Phi. W. EARL CARDON, Blackfoot, Idaho, age 59, died May, 1971 following a short illness. He attended Weber State and worked at HAFB. Upon moving to Blackfoot he operated the Cadillac Pontiac dealership. WALTER D. CHILD, Honolulu, died January, 1971 at the age of 83. He was a chemist and superintendent for Amalgamated Sugar Co. in the states; in Hawaii he acquired controlling interest of the Inter-Island resorts. °71 - RANDY KAYE DARROHN listed in Who’s Who among students in American universities and colleges was selected for his scholastic achievement in the field of Business by the Wall Street Journal and presented an award. An English major with a German minor, he plans to work toward a Ph.D. in English. CARL W. GREEN, age 49, died May, 1971 following a heart attack. He worked as inventory management specialist at HAFB, and formerly worked for Peter Pan Bakery, Railway Express and as a mail carrier. °71 - SCOTT A. LOUGHTON received a $2,300 stipend to work toward his masters degree at Brigham Young University. He plans to teach upon completion of his graduate program. His wife is the former Becky Fridal of Roy. °69 - DAVID E. HANSEN has been awarded a fellowship valued at $2,800 to work on a masters degree at the University of Utah. His field is speech therapy with a specialty in working with the deaf. He is married to the former Jolene Todd of Ogden. °71 - FRANCIS M. Weber, received a stipend of $2,550. junior at Weber, and ASA H. FARLEY, age 91, died March, 1971. He taught school in Morgan County, was a building contractor and operated a dairy and sawmill in Peterson, resided in Orem for 35 years before moving to Salt Lake City. 69 - KENT J. DAWSON received his Juris Doctor degree in Law from the University of Utah. Following admission to the Utah Bar, he hopes to enter private practice in Ogden. He is married to the former Ruth Walker of Syracuse and they have one child. 64 - RALPH INGEBRETSEN will be among young executives to participate in a training program held University and receive graduate credit for it. ELLIS has earned a Master of Science Degree in Geology from the University of Texas at ElPaso, after being awarded a two year teaching fellowship to obtain this degree. He is presently employed by a Mining Corporation in Montana. °66 - KEITH CARRIGAN has completed the requirements for a Masters degree in social work from the University of Utah. He received his Juris Doctor degree from University of Utah and is married to former Sandra Peterson. °69 - BRUCE E. BAILEY has completed requirements for a Master of Arts degree in political science from Utah State. His activities included delegate to the International court of Justice, President of the International Relations club and assistant in the Political Science Department. 64 - KIMBALL DEAN BLACK received his Doctorate in Education from the University of Denver at their June graduation. MILLER, past student body financial Vice President at Weber has earned a fellowship for $2,400 from Utah State University for graduate work in family and child development. PORTER, a cum _ laude graduate in Psychology, was awarded a $2,600 assistantship plus tuition waiver from the Texas Tech University School of Business. His wife is former Susan Little of Morgan. CANTWELL GRANT, age 74, died June, 1971, and her husband owned and operated the George many years; she worked as secretary for several before retiring. BARBARA ANN MACCARTHY GREEN, age 26, died May, 1971. She graduated from Ben Lomond High and attended Weber before moving to Midland Michigan where she had resided the last 5 years with her husband and 3 children. GEORGE A. HESLOP, West Weber, died at the age 89, April, 1971. A farmer prior to retiring, he served a term on the Weber County Board of Education and was a bishop for 26 years for the LDS church. BRIANT S. JACOBS, age 84, class of ’07, died of natural causes June, 1971. Retired farmer and accountant, he was a former recorder for Clearfield City and served 3 terms as Davis County treasurer. DURLAN D. JOHANSEN, age 50, died May, 1971 after a short illness. He was former owner and operator of Interiors Ltd. and Johansen’s Carpet and Drapery Company in Ogden. |
