Associated of Weber Alumni State College art is to be seen the rites of spring the bells of weber state = founders day 1970 Member American Alumni Council after commencement Since the construction of the Art Building Weber State College has enjoyed a place in which art exhibits can be held. Although not an art gallery in the strictest definition, the area does a fairly adequate job in showing art to the college community. The gallery area is designed in such a way that if you enter the Art Building you are in the viewing space. The classrooms and offices surround the gallery. The idea behind such a plan is that the student is exposed to and is surrounded by the art whether he likes it or not. Hopefully he likes it or learns to like it. The gallery is one of the finest educational opportunities afforded to the individual on the Weber State College campus. The expansion of the person’s taste, aesthetic sensibilities and emotional maturity are basic to his being liberally educated. The exhibiting of fine works of art is essential to this expansion. As instruction in art and how to enjoy art is basically visual, showing and exhibiting art is for enjoyment and instruction. Although the world is full of reproductions of art there is no adequate substitute for looking at the real art objective in the gallery atmosphere. The primary objective of the exhibit program is to raise the ability of the individual to enjoy and understand art and life. We find that after a certain amount of exposure of viewing art, the individual begins to return more frequently to visit the gallery. This is what we like. Certainly the gallery here on campus is a great addition not only to Weber State College but to the entire Ogden area as well. We can expect that the community will look to Weber State College for satisfying a large part of their cultural needs. If you have been in the habit of coming to see the art exhibits On campus during the past year, you have seen a peat variety of shows.
