Show ART = : Mrs. Ida HAWAII Francis, t Michael “Sed, - a “eX Macfarlane, WELCOMES GEIS pS ae Mr. ALUMNI ‘ Jim a Wwe ed ‘ Francis GROUP On July Sth a party of 17 left the Salt Lake City Airport for the Hawaiian islands under the sponsorship of the Weber State College Alumni Association. The group included Mr. and Mrs. James Francis, Mrs. and Mrs. Carl Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. Talmage DeLange, Mr. and Mrs. Darwin Damon, Alice Koldewyn, Alice Bragonje, Kathryn Riley, Louise Richter, Pat Fehlman, Janet Blaser, Madalyn Blaser and Mr. and Mrs. Michael Macfarlane. After the customary island welcome and transportation to the lovely Holiday Isle hotel in Honolulu, the party gathered in the evening for a reunion with Weber State alums from the islands. In 1928 the Weber College football team journeyed to Hawaii to play a team from the McKinley High School of Honolulu. Some of the McKinley players later came to Ogden and enrolled at Weber. This group returned to Hawaii in 1931 for another contest with the Micks of McKinley. Several former students from this group were in attendance at the July Sth reunion in Honolulu. The Ogden group was greeted by George Zane who had been responsible for the reunion arrangements in Honolulu. He was accompanied by his wife Nancy and they were joined by Bill and Priscilla Baker, Johnnie Peterson, Lee Witton, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gordon, Mr. and Mrs. Augie Aulf, Mr. and Mrs. LeMoyne Garside, and Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie Ing. Old acquaintances were renewed and many tales were told during the course of the evening. It was late into the night before the party broke up with the resolve to reunite the group in Ogden during homecoming week of 1972. After a 2 day stay in Honolulu and vicinity, the group flew to the garden island of Kauai where they were to take advantage of the beautiful beaches, see the spectacular Waimea Canyon and float leisurely up the Wailua River to the cool green beauty of the Fern Grotto. This writer left the tour at Kauai to return with some regret to the mainland and the typewriter. The tour was scheduled to visit the islands of Maui and Hawaii before returning to Salt Lake City on the 16th of July. This years tour and reunion in Hawaii is the first of what is hoped to be an annual program of the Alumni Association. Plans are now being made for a trip next year possibly to Hawaii once more or the historic pyramids of Mexico City. If you have plans of travel keep your eye on this alumni publication. We will be traveling again next year. Please plan to be with us. DEPT. NAMES NEW CHAIRMAN Peter L.
