Show Graduation A student may earn a maximum of fifteen hours of credit in one subject area at a single sitting. The examination sitting may not be for more than three courses in that subject. The fee for a single sitting is $15.00. All special examinations will be graded on a Credit/No-Credit basis. 4. Extension or Correspondence CreditWeber State College may accept 45 hours of extension or correspondence credit toward graduation. Transfer of extension or correspondence credit from other accredited institutions may be accepted as determined by departments. 5. Military Training CreditStudents having completed 24 or more months of active military service are granted a maximum of 13 credit hours towards graduation. These credits are granted in the following areas: 3 credit hours in Physical Education, 2 in Health Education, and 8 as electives. Other military credit is granted for some service schools if specified requirements are met. For further information inquire at the Graduation Office. Students who have completed four years or more in either the National Guard or a Reserve unit qualify for 3 credit hours of physical education. 6. Bootstrap CreditWeber State College Admissions Office will evaluate records of military service personnel applying for the Bootstrap Program. Applicants should make formal application and provide the Admissions Office with a complete set of educational and military records along with a request for a Bootstrap evaluation. REQUIREMENTS FOR BACHELOR OF ARTS, BACHELOR OF SCIENCE, AND BACHELOR OF GENERAL STUDIES DEGREES Minimum RequirementsA candidate for graduation with a Bachelor of Arts, a Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of Genera! Studies Degree, must have completed a minimum of 183 credits. Upper Division RequirementA minimum of 60 credits of upper division work. Major RequirementsA major in any one department will consist of not fewer than 40 and not more than 60 credits in the major field. (See Majors and Minors.) Minor RequirementsA minor consists of not fewer than 20 credits. Courses designed primarily for the major students which are also used to satisfy the area requirements as outlined under area requirements can be used as part of the minimum number of hours needed for the minor requirements. See department for specific minor requirements. For information pertaining to majors that do not require a minor see the dean of the school. A minimum of 20 approved hours is required in each one of the thrse areas of concentration for the Bachelor of General Studies degree. Change in Graduation RequirementsA student normally is held to the requirements outlined in the catalog published four years before the year cf his graduation. Where there is written agreement between a department chairman and a student, graduation requirements within a student's major or minor may be met by completing the requirements outlined in any catalog published one, two, or three years before the year of graduation. To meet specific and general education requirements, a student normally follows the requirements listed in the catalog published four years before the year of graduation. With the approval of the Graduation Office he may complete the specific and general education requirements by following the requirements outlined in a catalog published one, two, or three years before the year of his graduation. Residence RequirementA candidate for the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science or a Bachelor of General Studies Degree must have a minimum of 45 credits in residence at Weber State College and be registered at the College during at least one quarter following the last commencement prior to his graduation. 14 Specific Requirements School or Department RequirementsFurther information concerning specific courses will be provided under the discussion of school or department requirements and instructions. Candidates for graduation in the School of Education must meet the minimum requirements as outlined by the Utah State Board of Education for certification of elementary and secondary teachers. Specific Course RequirementsAll candidates must include in the 183 credit', required for graduation the following courses: Credits English 101, 102, 103 (English Composition) 9 English 103Writing in the Disciplines: Divided into 103A (Social Sciences and Humanities), 103B (Applied Sciences), and 103C (Exact Sciences). Health Education 100 2 Physical Education (Medical exemption approved by the college physician required to waive this requirement) 3 (For specified activities see Physical Education Department) The state requirement in American History, Government and Economics 3-5 The state requirement in American History, Government, and Economics may be satisfied by: 1. Completing one of the following courses: Economics 274, Economic History of the United States; Economics 430, Business and Government; History 170, American Civilization; History 120, United States History and History 121, United States History; History 420, Constitutional History of the United States; Political Science 110, American National Government; Philosophy 320, Philosophy of Democracy. (Economics 274, History 120, 121, and 170, Political Science 110, and Philosophy 320 may also be applied to general education requirements.) or 2. Presenting advanced placement credit in American History or suitable transfer courses from other institutions or 3. Passing a special examination administered before the end of the second week of each quarter under the direction of the Dean of the School of Social Science. If this option is completed, the Social Science requirement is reduced to 9 credit hours. BACHELOR OF ARTS REQUIREMENTS In addition to the foregoing requirements concerning total hours, upper division work, majors, minors, residency, and specific courses, a candidate for a Bachelor of Arts shall complete, as general education area requirements, at least 40 credit hours in the five areas of Humanities, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, "Other". These hours shall be proportioned as follows: at least 15 credit hours in the Humanities with courses selected from at least four groups; at least 12 credit hours in the Social Sciences; at least 9 credit hours in the combined areas of the Life Sciences and the Physical Sciences, with at least one course in each area; and at least four credit hours from the fifth area of "Other". A candidate for a Bachelor of Arts degree must complete 24 credits, or the equivalent, in one approved foreign language. A maximum of 15 college credits from high school may count toward filling the foreign language requirement, provided the student can pass an examination to demonstrate his knowledge of the subject. Transfer credit from another institution will be recognized without an examination. BACHELOR OF SCIENCE REQUIREMENTS In addition to the requirements concerning total hours, upper division work, majors, minors, residency, and specific courses, a candidate for a Bachelor of Science shall complete, as general education area requirements, at least 40 credit hours in the five areas of Humanities, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, and "Other".
