Show Social Sciences Sociology Program: Sociology MajorBachelor Degree I. General Requirements: A. Specific course requirements of the college (see index). B. Bachelor Degree General Education requirements (see index). C. A minor is required. D. Sociology majors must have an overall 2.25 G. P. A. or better in major courses. E. Sociology majors must have an overall G. P. A. of 2.00 or C. (Sociology Teaching majors must achieve an overall 2.25 G. P. A.) F. 183 total hours are required for this degree. G. Sixty of the 183 total hours must be upper division (courses numbered 300 and above). H. Students obtaining a Sociology Teaching major must satisfy the School of Education Certification Program (see Teacher Educations). These courses must include the following: Education 195 (1). 300 (3), 350 (3), 363 (3), 364 (4). 495 (15), 499 (5). II. Specific Requirements: A. Option I: Sociology Area Concentration or Sociology Teaching Major 1. Majors must take a minimum of 45 credit hours of Sociology courses. 2. Sociology courses required: a. Sociology 101 (5), 250 (5), 360 (3), 406 (5), 465 (5), 499 (2). b. Complete courses in one of the following areas: (1) Criminology: Sociology 326 (5), 327 (3), 498 (2-5). (2) Family: Sociology 111 (3), 311 (3), 315 (3), 480 (3). (3) Social Problems: Sociology 102 (5), 410 (3), 321 (3). (4) Organization and Demography: Sociology 280 (5), 301 (3), 380 (3). c. Sociology Teaching majors must take Sociology 341 (3). 3. Sociology courses to elect from (nine hours): Sociology 102 (5), 111 (3), 222 (3), 280 (5), 301 (3), 311 (3), 315 (3), 321 (3), 322 (2), 323 (3), 326 (5), 327 (3), 332 (3), 343 (3), 345 (3), 360 (3), 380 (3), 402 (3), 410 (3), 422 (3), 480 (3), 482 (2-10), 498 (2-5). 4. Support courses required: Sociology Teaching majors must take Communication 102 (3). B. Option II: Social Work Emphasis 1. Students will be required to make application for admittance into the Social Work sequence by the first quarter of their junior year. 2. Courses required: Sociology 101 (5), 250 (5), 360 (3), 406 (5), 465 (5), 499 (2); Social Work 130 (5), 213 (3), 370 (3), 371 (3), 372 (3), 454 (3) 455 (3), 456 (3). 3. Courses to elect from: a. Six credit hours from the following: Sociology 102 (5), 111 (3), 222 (3), 280 (5), 301 (3), 311 (3), 315 (3), 321 (3), 322 (2), 323 (3), 326 (3), 327 (3), 332 (3), 341 (3), 343 (3), 345 (3), 380 (3), 402 (3), 410 (3), 422 (3), 480 (3), 482 (2-10), 498 (2-5). b. Three hours from the following: Social Work 213 (3), 230 (3), 460 (2-6), 461 (3), 462 (2), 492 (2-4), 498 (2-5), 499 (2). 232 Social Sciences Sociology Program: Sociology Departmental Honors I. General Requirements: A. Enroll in the General Honors Program and complete 10 hours of General Honors courses. B. Maintain an overall G. P. A. of 3.3. C. Fulfill the requirements for the Sociology major or the Sociology Teaching major or the Social Work concentration. II. Specific Requirements: A. Option I: Sociology Area and Teaching Majors 1. In fulfilling requirements for a Sociology major in Honors take at least 20 hours on an Honors basis. 2. In addition, complete the Sociology Honors Senior Project of 2 hours. 3. A student may receive Departmental Honors credit in any upper division Sociology course with the exception of 465 and 482. 4. Permission from the department chairman should be sought before registering in a course for Honors credit. A written agreement should be reached with the appropriate professor regarding the work expected for Honors credit. B. Option II: Social Work Concentration 1. In fulfilling this concentration take on an Honors basis Social Work 370, 371, 372, 461, and 462 for a total of 14 hours. 2. In addition, complete the Social Work Emphasis Honors Senior Project of 2 hours in Social Work 498. 3. Permission from the department chairman should be sought before registering in a course for Honors credit. A written agreement should be reached with the appropriate professor regarding the work expected for Honors credit. (See Composite and Interdepartmental Programs.) Program: Sociology Minor or Sociology Teaching Minor I. General Requirements: A. A grade of C or better in minor courses. II. Specific Requirements: A. Minors must take a minimum of 24 credit hours in Sociology courses. B. Sociology courses required: Sociology 101 (5), 406 (5). C. Sociology courses to elect from (nine hours): Sociology 111 (3), 222 (3), 250 (5), 280 (5), 301 (3), 311 (3), 315 (3), 321 (3), 322 (2), 323 (3), 326 (5), 327 (3), 332 (3), 341 (3), 343 (3), 345 (3), 360 (3), 380 (3), 402 (3), 406 (5), 410 (3), 422 (3), 465 (5), 480 (3), 482 (2-10), 498 (2-5), 499 (2). 233 |
