Show he Pioneer Post Volume VIII Issue 10 Marriott-Slaterville City Newsletter October 2006 1570 West 400 North - Phone (801) 627-1919 Community Awards With fall arriving, city residents again have an opportunity to nominate someone who has contributed to our community. This contribution can come in many forms, including: talents, history and culture, leadership, or service projects. There are several awards created to recognize our outstanding residents, so take this opportunity to nominate someone. Winners will be recognized with a certificate at the council meeting in December. GOOD NEIGHBOR AWARD This award gives residents the chance to nominate an outstanding neighbor. You can nominate either an exceptional resident or business in the community. Qualifications for this award include: Someone who goes the extra mile to maintain a beautiful yard or business. 2. Someone who has encouraged or helped other neighbors in a positive manner. 3. Residents or businesses regarded for their appreciation and dedication to the community. The deadline for nominations is November 30, 2006. Recipients of the "Good Neighbor Award" will be selected by the mayor from the nominations received. ELNA LUCAS COMMUNITY CULTURE AND HISTORY AWARD In honor of the historical and cultural work by Elna Lucas as City Historian, this award celebrates those individuals who contribute to community culture and history. Any resident of the community is eligible to make one or more entries for this award. To enter, submit to the mayor a short story, poem, song, article, or artistic work of cultural or historical interest created by the applicant. Entries are due on or fore November 30, 2006. The recipient of this award may have all or part of his or her entry displayed or made part of the city's history. All entries must include names and a contact phone number. H. ORVIL HOLLEY YOUTH LEADERSHIP AWARD In honor of the contributions that Orvil Holley has made to the youth in this community, this award is to recognize leadership skills among our youth. Any youth in the community (under 18 years) is eligible for nomination. Nominations will be accepted by the mayor for youth who have demonstrated leadership or skills, who organize an outstanding event, or who perform an outstanding service project. Deadline is November 30, 2006. DARRELL MECHAM SERVICE AWARD In honor of the dedicated volunteer service of Darrel Mecham, this award recognizes an outstanding volunteer in the community. Any person or organization is eligible for this award. Nominations will be received by the mayor on or before November 30, 2006, for any person or organization who has demonstrated outstanding volunteers services rendered on behalf of Marriott-Slaterville City. LOCAL UPDATES Road Construction. The city will be fixing potholes and painting roads this fall in preparation for winter. UDOT will continue the re-construction of I-15 into 2007. Flu Shots. Applegate Home Care will be giving flu shots to anyone interested on November 7, 2006, from 12:00 - 2:00 p.m. All Seniors on Medicare B will need to bring their Medicare card as well as their photo ID. With your card, shots will be free. The cost of the shot without Medicare will be $25.00. We will need a count for the serum so please sign up at the city building before October 31.
