MAKING MEN At Weber gym, if the advertising I on the back of their large envelopes is correct, they have a wonderful 1 process of taking two men, one obese i and one much deformed and de-1 crepit, and putting them through a course of play and training that re- suits in one fine upstanding athletic! man that is beautiful to look upon. We think this must be a wonderful institution. The official name of the institution is "man factory." The only improvefent that we can suggest in this would be to pattern after the good farmer who makes two good ears of corn to grow where there was only one before, and make two men out of one, instead of one out of two. NATIONAL CONTEST Tuesday evening the Ogden dis¬trict competition in the national oratorical contest will be held in the Ogden high school. Davis, Weber, Box Elder, Bear River, Logan, Ran¬dolph, Ogden high schools are rep-resented by speakers. A new feature this year will be the offering of. two speeches, prepared speech of six minutes and an extemporaneous speech of four minutes by each con¬testant. Henry Aiken represents the Og¬den high school in this contest and here's hoping that he will win. MISS KEENER, A PLAYWRIGHT Miss Keener, one of our finest teachers, has turned playwright. Her play, "The Gray Switch," has been circulated widely throughout the east and at present the State of Delaware is holding a state contest in play production in which Miss Keener's play is used. This is cer¬tainly a fine thing and we con¬gratulate our teacher on the success her work has achieved. WANNON-O With the usual pep and foresight I Wannon-O has taken up the cause of the tennis courts and. according to the threats and prcanises of Ihe members we are promised some early help in solving of the matter. Our meetings are assuming some¬what of an air-minded atmosphere the.'; bespeaks spirit. We have turn¬ed to baseball as a check value for any excess energy. And say, don't forget our booth! [To — gi THANKS, WEBER! bi The following letter is a fine dem¬onstration of the fine spirit that has given Weber county her present success in the state tournament. We congratulate you, Weber, again for your basketball achievements. May! the friendship between our schools! always be as warm. Mr. A. M. Merrill, Principal and Student Body of Ogden High School. Greetings: I wish to extend our thanks and appreciation to you for your ex¬pressions of good will to Weber in her first efforts to hold forth in the state tournament in basketball. We have been noticing in the Og¬den High school notes more than once this winter, evidences of friend¬ly interest and good sportsmanship as revealed in the comments, and I certain write-ups. We appreciate this from your institution, and we , shall always want to reciprocate. The comment in the notes of a, few evenings ago in which you "wish Weber best of luck in their opening 1 game in the tournament," and later state, "they have a splendid team and, they and their coach, Dick Thorne, deserve commendations for having a spirit of fair play and fight tha'; never says die," is a distinct compliment. This statement in your interesting daily notes will be read by many hundreds of people young and old in Weber county. You have ! shown a generosity and such a i splendid spirit of courtesy and good sportsmanship during the past few : months, and during other years as well, that I was constrained to write you, and to say that we are most ! grateful. We trust that we may keep with you in this exhibition 01 generous school spirit of the best brand. Cordially and respectfully yours, B. A. FOWLER, Superintendent, Weber School District. O.H.S.
