Show 18 WEBER COLLEGE THE DEPARTMENT OF BACTERIOLOGY AND HYGIENE DEAN ALBERT ANDERSON RUTH WARD MUMFORD It is recommended that a student pursuing a major in Bacteriology complete Bacteriology 1, and 3, Physiology 1, and Botany 1. COURSES OF INSTRUCTION Bacteriology BACTERIOLOGY 1. General Bacteriology. A course devoted to some of the fundamental facts of bacteriology and the making of applications of industrial, economic and sanitary importance. Three lectures and two laboratory periods a week. Five quarter hours. BACTERIOLOGY 2. Micro-organisms. A study of the fundamental characteristics and habits of micro-organisms, both pathogenic and non-pathogenic. Demonstrations stressing the public health point of view are made to establish an understanding of the necessity for surgical asepsis. Three quarter hours, including laboratory work. (For nurses only). BACTERIOLOGY 3. Advanced General Bacteriology. A study of the practical applications of bacteriological technique in industries and diagnostic laboratories. Three lectures and two labora-tory periods a week. Five quarter hours. BACTERIOLOGY 4. Elementary Food Microbiology. An elementary course designed to acquaint students in home economics with the practical relations of bacteria, yeasts, and molds to foods. Prerequisite: Bacteriology 1. Five quarter hours. Hygiene HYGIENE 1. Applied Personal Hygiene. A study of the personal and social health of the college student. Required of all freshmen. One quarter hour. HYGIENE 2. Health Education. A study designed to acquaint the prospective teacher with methods of maintaining and improving the health of her pupils. Required of all Education students. Five quarter hours. HYGIENE 3. Advanced Personal Hygiene. A course in the principles and practices of personal and preventitive hygiene, emphasizing the paramount importance of health and the functions of the nurse as a teacher of health. One quarter hour.
