Show Tyler Ornamental Iron and Bronze and help you get it done. When you have an appointment to see him, he’s there on time and ready to listen to you. He pays his bills when they are due, and writes thank you notes when people have been especially courteous to him. He takes your side if you’re in trouble, but takes care not to intrude in other people’s business. He keeps his lawn neat and his sidewalks shovelled clear in the winter, but doesn’t carry these to such a point that all the wives in the neighborhood get mad at their husbands. He doesn’t have to do anything spectacular; he’s simply a pleasure to have among your friends. In this sense, decent is a fine word, and the man who deserves it is welcome anywhere. Sweeping new theories electrify the imagination, but ox-like effort seems to have a more direct connection with getting the work done. We heard an eerie story the other day from a friend who swears it happened to a personal friend of his. The man in question is a top executive of a large publishing company based in New York. Tyler Elevator Entrances and Cars Like most executives, he has developed his own techniques and habits for managing a heavy work load. One is that he reads only one-page-or-less letters during the working day. The longer ones, usually dealing with more involved and often less immediate mat- ters, he puts aside for reading at home. In the quiet of the evening, he can give them the sort of reflective attention they warrant. During a particularly busy period, he didn’t have any free evenings for a spell. His over-a- page letter file built up to about 25, waiting in his brief case. They were from important people all seas, and what was A clear brief case around the country, and a few overhe began getting concerned about in them. evening did arrive, and he took the home with him. The trouble was that he left the brief case on the train. The next day his secretary tried every possible way of tracking down the brief case, and failed. It had simply disappeared, and there was no record of the letters at all. The executive winced, and waited for the trouble to begin. What important programs would be wrecked because he couldn’t answer sixteen seventeen |
