Field trips to nurseries. Three quarter hours. 97. Plant Materials. Classification, identification, requirements and uses of both woody and herbaceous plants for landscape purposes. A course designed for a- dults on planning, preparing, and buying of food. One three-hour laboratory period a week. One quarter hour. 53. Family Meals. Practical experience in planning and preparing meals for the family. One three-hour laboratory period a week. One quarter hour. 55. Foods for Special Occasions - Foreign Food. How to prepare attractive, unusual, dishes especially suitable for guests and parties, as well as some emphasis on foreign foods. One three-hour laboratory period a week. One quarter hour. 60. Elementary Clothing. Designed for the Homemaker who desires guidance in elementary clothing problems. One laboratory period a week. Three quarter hours. 61, Advanced Clothing. Assistance on individual advanced clothing problems. One laboratory period a week. Three quarter hours. 62. Tailoring. A course intended for people who have had some experience in sewing and are interested in coat or suit making. One laboratory period a week. Three quarter hours. 66. Knitting. Individual instruction in the basic skills of knitting, such as stitch, design, blocking, (sweaters, dress, stole, etc.) One quarter hour. 68. Millinery. A course in the desgning and making of millinery. One quarter hour. 70. Upholstery. Elementary operations of webbing, springing, first stuffing, and upholstery of footstools, ottomans, and chairs. A student works on his own articles using his own materials. One three-hour laboratory period a week. One quarter hour. 81. Family Relationships. Inter-personal relationships within the family. Discussion of basic needs, values, goals, and patterns of behavior. Two quarter hours. 203 DIVISION OF PHYSICAL EDUCATION The division of Physical Education offers courses in the departments of Health Education, Physical Education, and Recreation. Many courses listed in this Division will be taught in the Evening School. (See Physical Education Division). DIVISION OF MATHEMATICS AND PHYSICAL SCIENCES The Division of Mathematics and Physical Sciences offers courses in the departments of General Education for Physical Sciences, Chemistry, Geology and Geography, Engineering, Mathematics, Archtecture, Photography, Physics, and Architectural and Engineering Technology. Many courses listed in this Division will be taught in the Evening School, and in addition, the following courses may be offered. GEOLOGY la. Geology. The earth, its rocks and minerals, its surface and subterranean features, their origin and their causes as revealed in land features. Two field trips required. Two lectures and one laboratory period a week. Two and one half quarter hours. lb. General Geology. Continuation of Geology la. Two and one- half quarter hours. 3a. Historical Geology. The history of the earth, from its theoretical origin to the present as interpreted from the rocks and their fossil contents. North America, particularly Utah and adjacent areas, is emphasized. Two required field trips to local areas provide a valuable supplement to class discussion. Prerequisites: Geology 1 or Geology 11. Two and one-half quarter hours. 3b. Historical Geology. Continuation of Geology 3a. Two and one-half quarter hours. 14a. Regional Geology. A continuation of Geology 1 and 3, but with emphasis on the various regions of the United States, thier geological development and correlations. Two and one-half quarter hours. 14b. Regional Geology. Continuation of Geology 14a. Two and one-half quarter hours. 55. Elementary Underground Water. A general course dealing with the origin, occurrence behavior, and use of underground water, with special emphasis on practical applications in the state of Utah. Five quarter hours. 61. Gemology. A course designed to acquaint the student with the physical and other properties of the minerals and rocks which are used as gems in jewelry or decorative pieces. Four quarter hours. |
