Show Weber Warriors Down Ogden In Exciting Contest Surprise Team Of Ogden Division Race DIXON KAPPLE'S Ogden High basketeers bowed to defeat against the strong Weber High aggregation at the Warrior gymnasium last night, but gave a good account of themselves. The Tigers of 1930 have been the surprise team of the division. Picked to have one of the poorest seasons in the history of the school, at the opening of the season, the Tigers have made a marvelous showing. Top, left to right: Bill Stitt, forward, and Clyde Hunter, forward. Lower, left to right: Jack Hilton, center; Les Mayer, guard; Doxey Stone, guard, and Frank Foley, guard. Squad: Back row, left to right: Coach Dixon Kapple, Ellis Stoker, Bob Van Dyke, Herb Tarran, E. Morby, Fred Morris and Wallace Manning, athletic manager. Center row, left to right: Jack Hilton, Frank Foley, Clyde Hunter, Bill Stitt, Doxey Stone and Les Mayer. Lower row, left to right: Tom O'Neill, Pell, G. Price, Fred Wilson and Lane Newey. CHATTER AND CHAFF The war is on. Now that adver¬tising is being made for various girls : for queen, if you have any fair maid who you think would be the hen's teeth as queen write an ad to the notes telling them of the ' merits of your choice. "Barge" Holloway had the pleasure of excusing about nine-tenths of ' the officers Friday morning to dec- or&te. If you liked the decorations 'it v.as due to the fact that such hearty response was given by the of¬ficers and two sponsors. Bridge is some game, isn't it, Charlene? I'm singin in the rain. So a number of the students thought while they were waiting for the car the other evening after the game. ORATORY This week the oratorical abilities of the student body will be judged when the constitutional and the S. A. R. contests are held. If you have entered the contest don't fail to memorize your oration right away. It should not be delayed. The ora- j tions of a number of students have been written but not yet memorized i as yet. Don't forget to do this. It isn't an oration unless you can speak. The mere written outline or speech is not enough. WEIGHED IN THE BALANCE These are the days when seniors are being "weighed in the balance." 1 A few, we are sorry to say, are found t wanting and notes are sent out to 1 such "application for graduation not i granted. Reason, insufficient cred- ' it." i TIGERS Another of our league games was brought to a close Saturday night, and in spite of the score it was a wonderful game. Weber met us with a wonderful team, and as a re¬sult are now tied with Davis for j first place. The floor work and pass- j ing were superb. The Warriors pre¬sented a bewildering five-man play and kept the Tigers guessing at times. The Orange Streaks were in fine form regardless of the fact that they had attended the military ball the preveding night. Our team has indeed been a surprise to all bas¬ketball fans. We are waiting anx¬iously for the two games that are left. These are scheduled with Da¬vis and Bear River. MARRIAGE OF NANETTE Mr. Hansen has reconsidered his decision about the school opera. He is somewhat partial now to the j "Marriage of Nanette," by Curtis, I and it is quite likely that this will be chosen for spring presentation. BOX ELDER To Battle Davis; Weber is Idle Final Games In Ogden Division Booked For Late Next Week OGDEN DIVISION Won. Lost. Pet. T WO court battles are booked in the Ogden division of the Utah State High School Basketball league this week. The Ogden Tigers, suprise team of the division, entertain the Bear Riv¬er five Friday night in Ogden in their semi-final league battle of the ' year. Box Elder, scrappy team under command of Earl Ferguson, will be host to the league leaders, Davis, -his contest is sure to attract a rec¬ord breaking crowd. Coach Dixon Kapple of the "Or¬ange Streaks" hopes to yet get a chance to get into the state tourna-ment. Victories over Bear River and Davis in her remaining games would give the Tigers a chance at least. The Tigers probably will use Stitt and Hunter at forwards with Hilton at center. Mayer and Foley proba-bly will start on the guard line. Weber High, second place holders in the Ogden division, will be idle this week. They will engage Bear River in their final contest next week. Prospects for Weber to get into the state joust are brighter than at any time since the locals enrolled in athletic competition. Coach Dixon Kapple of the Tigers was undecided today as to where his game with Bear River would be played. This affair may be staged on the Tiger court. |
