The primary goal is to encourage and help students in the development of their potential as independent learners. Student Counseling & Career Services Counseling and Psychological Services Location: Student Service Center, Room 280 Telephone: 801-626-6406 The Counseling and Psychological Services Center is staffed to provide a broad range of professional counseling services to Weber State University students, staff and faculty. These services include assistance in personal, educational, or relationship issues by means of individual, couple, or group counseling. Career Services Location: Student Service Center, Room 230 Telephone: 801-626-6393 Career Services helps students determine their career goals, find part-time and career employment, gain related work experience, and research career information utilizing a comprehensive career library. A professionally trained staff is available to assist with career planning, resume writing, interview techniques and employment strategies. This office also coordinates Cooperative Education and Internship Programs and on and off-campus job opportunities, including work-study and all hourly employment. The bookstore sells educational materials and supplies needed for class work at Weber State University. Trade books, art supplies, calculators, clothing and many other items are also available. Computers and software are available to students at discounted prices. Bookstores are located on the Ogden and Davis campus locations to meet the needs of students, faculty and staff. Provides financial policy "training for student organizations. Provides accounts for 30 ARO groups on campus. Dining Services Location: Shepherd Union, Room 336 Telephone: 801-626-6087 Weber State University's Dining Services offers a variety of dining alternatives for students, staff and faculty on campus. Catering services are also available. The Junction Food Court, located on the lower level of the Shepherd Union Building, includes Chick Fil-A, Oscar Mayer and the Bagel Basket. On the east side of the building is Wildcat Corner, Pretzel Maker and Squeezers, a fresh juice format. In the Gallery, located on the third level, the dining options include: Pizza Hut Express, Firehouse Grill, Subway, Specialty Plus, the Main Event and Carlos Peppers. On the fourth level, the Skyroom offers a panoramic view and a fine dining restaurant atmosphere. The Skyroom is open for lunch only. All facilities are open Monday through Friday, with limited service on Saturdays. Hours of operation vary in each location. Promontory Tower is the residential life dining facility. A variety of meal plans are available (which include breakfast, lunch and dinner) for students living in the residence halls. Meals are also I available to non-resident guests on a cash basis. The Depot convenience store (located in Promontory Tower) is open during the afternoons and evenings. Diversity Center Location: Shepherd Union, Room 240 Telephone: 801-626-7424; 801-626-8032; or 801-626-6379 • Serves as a resource center to develop an appreciation of all people through exposure to differences and similarities of culture, ideas, and backgrounds, regardless of age, ethnicity, race, national origin, sexual orientation or physical qualities. • Provides programming support services and facilitates training on cultural awareness and diversity issues. • Coordinates activities which affirm cultures and heritages while also exposing them to new people, perspectives and experiences (includes Cinco de Mayo and Black History Month programs). An experiential environment for learning and practicing "life skills" is provided by empowering students and providing opportunities for leadership, personal development and service. Through participation in educational, social, cultural and recreational programs, Student Activities seeks to expand and enrich the entire campus and local community. Through such activities as our Welcome Weeks, the Association of Registered Organizations serves as a liaison between its member groups and the University at large to promote and highlight the various benefits of involvement and participation. Whether your interests are academic, professional, civic, athletic, religious, political, cultural or social, students are encouraged to augment their collegiate experience by joining an ARO group. Membership in these organizations provides students the opportunity to build life-long friendships through a mutual commitment to involvement in programs and activities which benefit the individual, the campus and the community. In addition, membership provides students with support in their academic efforts, leadership opportunities and social interaction. Four fraternities Pi Kappa Alpha, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, Sigma Gamma Chi, Sigma Chi Omega, and five sororities Otyokwa, LaDianaeda, Lambda Delta Sigma, Sharmea encourage all students to experience Greek Life. WSU also has historically black fraternities and sororities - National Pan-Hellenic groups - for students to join. This time is set aside for the campus community to take advantage of the various available programs. The design for Open Hour is broad in nature and consists of campus, departmental, and organizational activities. The Open Hour is designed to achieve two basic goals: to expand the educational and cultural horizons of the Weber State University campus community, and to create and enhance the sense of community at WSU by fostering increased interaction and mutual support among faculty, staff, students, and the community. Formal programs during Open Hour include: Convocations Lecture Series This convocation series supplements formal classroom education by bringing in speakers of national stature and/or authorities in diversified areas. Attendees have the opportunity to examine specific issues, to be introduced to famous people and their lifestyles and values, and to explore new and unique ideas. Issues Forum The Issues Forum uses debates among members of the campus community, panel discussions, seminars, and question and answer sessions. The goal of this program is to enhance critical thinking and stimulate thought on a variety of topics, from local political issues to basic philosophical questions, and exposes the campus community to scholarly dialogue. Student Leadership Programs Location: Dept. of Student Activities, Shepherd Union, Second Level Telephone: 801-626-6349 Participation in the following programs provides leadership opportunities in addition to personal development: • Student Leadership Conferences - are open to all students on campus and is designed to provide leadership opportunities and instruction in an informal setting. One is held prior to the beginning of Fall semester and one during Spring semester. • Campus Outreach - is a monthly program of leadership instruction and experiences presented by Weber State students to local high school leaders. • Profiles in Leadership - is a monthly forum for the benefit and enrichment of the students on campus. It is designed to introduce them to local leaders and gives them an opportunity for discussing leadership styles and issues.
