MaturityA person 21 years of age or over who has not completed a full high school course may be admitted if in the judgment of the Admissions Committee his preparation is adequate. If such a student wishes to graduate from Weber State College, he must matriculate by meeting the college entrance requirements. 3. Early AdmissionThe college has a program in early admission for the exceptionally well-qualified high school student. A student with high scholastic achievement through his junior year may be considered individually for early admission upon recommendation of his high school principal and superintendent. A student accepted into the early admission program will be considered a fully matriculated student. Students wanting more detailed information concerning this program should contact the Director of Admissions. 4. Transfer StudentsTo be admitted to Weber State College, a transfer student from another college or university must submit the following information at least 30 days prior to registration: (1) a Weber State College application for admission, (2) official transcripts showing all college work previously taken, and (3) evidence that he is in good standing and eligible to re-enroll at the college or university where he was most recently registered. All transfer students who have completed 15 credit hours or more will not be required to take the ACT if the equivalent to our English 100 or English 101 is included in the 15 hours. A transfer student must give evidence of having maintained an average of 2.0 (A 4.0, B 3.0, C 2.0, D 1.0, E 0) in his previous college work. Any exceptions to the admissions standards must be approved by the Admissions Committee. A student transferring from an accredited junior college will be accepted at Weber State with upper division standing if he presents evidence of having an associate of science or arts degree and has completed a general education program comparable to that of Weber State College. If such is not presented, an applicant may be requested to complete general requirements as outlined in this catalog. 5. Readmission of Former StudentsAny time a student interrupts his continuous enrollment at WSC by not registering for one or more quarters, with the exception of summer quarter, he must apply for readmission. If a student has been out of school for one year or less, he can reapply simply by calling the Admissions Office and requesting that a registration packet be prepared for him the quarter he intends to enroll. If he has remained out of school for more than one year, he must reapply on a formal application that can be obtained from the Admissions Office. A student who has been registered at another school since attending Weber State College is considered a transfer student and must make formal application through the Admissions Office and comply with all application requirements of a transfer student. 6. Foreign StudentsBefore a foreign student can be considered for admission, the student must submit an application form; an official transcript in English from each secondary school, college or university attended; a certificate, diploma, or government examination report received on completion of secondary school work; and the degree, license, or diploma received on completion of university training abroad. Applicant must also submit a financial statement proving he has funds adequate for school and living expenses for the full length of time he expects to attend Weber. If a student is accepted, he must deposit his first year's living expenses with the Weber State College Business Office before an 1-20 will be released to him. To demonstrate proficiency in English, a foreign student is required to take either the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the English Proficiency Test. Arrangements to take the TOEFL can be made by writing directly to TOEFL, Educational Testing Service, P. O. Box 592, Princeton, New-Jersey 08540, U.S.A. The English Proficiency Test must be taken at the American Consulate given by the consulate examiner. All of the above information should be in the Admissions Office at least 60 days prior to registration for 10 Academic Standards the quarter he wishes to enter. A foreign student planning to enter Weber State College should communicate with the Admissions Office, Weber State College, Ogden, Utah 84408. A foreign student transferring from another college in the United States must have been enrolled in that college for at least one academic year before his application will be considered at Weber State College. Foreign Student AdviserAll foreign students are required to meet with the Foreign Student Adviser immediately after arriving on campus to receive individualized briefing and academic advice. All foreign students are expected to enroll every quarter and they must take a minimum of 12 credit hours each quarter. The Foreign Student Adviser gives assistance to foreign students in meeting the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service requirements concerning visas, passports, permits, permission to work and related matters. Foreign students are also assisted in making academic, personal-social, and environmental adjustments to campus and community life. Social and cultural events, community activities and the programs of the International Student's Club are coordinated through the Foreign Student Adviser. REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION TO A CERTIFICATE PROGRAM The certificate programs are designed to provide from one to two years of instruction in Auto Body, Automotive Service, Cosmetology, Diesel, Electronic Technology, Machine Tool, Welding, and Secretarial Training. High school graduation is desirable but not required. An applicant who is not a high school graduate must be 18 years of age or over and receive the approval of the Admissions Committee and department concerned. HIGH SCHOOL AND COLLEGE RELATIONS The High School and College Relations Office maintains liaison between Weber State College and prospective students. Representatives of the college make scheduled visits to all high schools and junior colleges within the state and to selected schools in neighboring states. The purpose of these visits is to inform students and educators of the educational programs available at the college and to provide them with information about application procedures and deadlines. Campus visits for interested student groups, and student and counselor conferences are coordinated through the High School and College Relations Office. ACADEMIC ADVISEMENT At the time of admission to Weber State College every student is assigned to his major field or to the Academic Advisement Office for general advisement if he has not declared his major. Thus, guidance is available for each student as he plans his registration schedules and moves toward a degree of his choice or toward a certificate program. A student with any educational problem may seek assistance from a departmental adviser at any time. For information concerning general advisement (undeclared majors), students may inquire at the Advisement Office. A student who wishes to change his major may officially do so by request at the Advisement Office, window 211, in the Administration Building, or by calling Weber State College. ACADEMIC STANDARDS The Academic Standards Program exists to help students perform more nearly in accordance with their potential. Any student whose graded performance is lower than he thinks it should be, may, at his request, receive evaluation of and help concerning ability, study skill, choice of major, and personal problems. All such students whose cumulative grade average is below a C or 2.0 level and all students whose quarterly grade average is below a D or 1,0 level will be placed on warning as indicated below. These students will not be eligible to participate in certain college-sponsored activities. (See Eligibility Standards.) 11 |
