Show Museums MUSEUMS Weber State College Museum of Natural History is located on the main floor of the Science Hall Building. Exhibits represent the various areas of interest from the science departments as organized under the direction of the museum director. The museum is an excellent educational facility for all visitors. In addition to Weber State College students, hundreds of elementary and secondary school children visit the museum regularly. Items of interest include dinosaur skeletons, rock and mineral displays, aquaria, dioramas, displays of plant and animal evolution and adaptations and remote sensing weather station. The museum is open from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily Monday through Friday, except for holidays. Zoology MuseumOne of the finest collections in 'he state of Utah of mammals, birds, amphibia, reptiles, insects, and other animals is maintained by the Department of Zoology. Numerous species from Utah and western states, as well as a number of exotic species, are included in the collection. Frequent field trips to selected desert and mountain regions constantly augment the specimens used for study. Botany HerbariumThe herbarium of Weber State College is a rapidly growing collection of plant and library materials. At present this collection contains some 12,000 preserved plant specimens collected primarily from areas throughout the western states. These plants and the literature provide a valuable source of reference material for the faculty, capable students, and visiting botanists. Geology RepositoryThe repository consists of study collections of minerals, rocks, fossils, and maps and is located on the third floor of the Science Laboratory Building. It includes a mineral collection of about a thousand micromount crystals, thumbnail, hand, and museum specimens and about 700 identified Utah ore minerals and rock specimens. The paleontological portion of the repository consists of several thousand specimens of fossil plants and animals from all parts of the stratigraphic column and many parts of the world. The map collection contains many maps of Utah and most other parts of the world. Although the collections are primarily for the support and supplement of classes and laboratories, they also are available for study by qualified amateur and professional researchers under the direction of the department faculty. PLANETARIUM A planetarium featuring a 30 foot hemispherical dome and Spitz A-4 planetarium projector is located in the Science Lecture Building. At present this installation is one of few such facilities in the intermountain area. The facility is used primarily in class instruction in astronomy classes. In addition, a program featuring some phase of astronomy is given once each week which is open to students and the general public. SECURITY AND TRAFFIC The Office of Campus Police is a protective agency established for the benefit of the students, faculty, visitors and staff. It maintains effective liaison with the local police department and is entrusted with proper enforcement of laws, and campus rules and regulations. All matters concerning security, safety, or requiring police action should be referred to this office. Another major responsibility of the Office of Campus Police is the control of campus motor traffic and parking. In each academic year faculty, staff members and students who regularly or occasionally operate motor vehicles on campus must register any such motor vehicle with this office. All students, faculty, and staff members who plan to park on campus must display a parking permit on their motor vehicles. Traffic Rules and Regulations are available at registration or the Office of Campus Police. 44 Intercollegiate Athletics All members of the campus community are expected to obey federal, state and local laws. INTERCOLLEGIATE ATHLETICS Weber State College is a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association the Big Sky Athletic Conference and the Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women, Region 7, and as such offers a full program in Intercollegiate Athletics. The members of the Big Sky Athletic Conference are Weber State College, Gonzaga University, University of Idaho, Idaho State University, University of Montana, Montana State University, Boise State University, and Northern Arizona University. Region 7 of the Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women includes schools in Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico. The program is under the direction of Dale L. Gardner as Athletic Director with Gary Crompton as Assistant Athletic Director. Athletic publicity is under the direction of John Peterson. Dr. Russell N. Hirst serves as team physician in all sports; Ben Davidson, as trainer; and Ronald Flygare, as equipment manager.
