Show Technology Food Service FOOD SERVICE OPERATION PROGRAM The food service area is designed to prepare men and women for employment in the major areas of restaurant administration. It is designed to train the student for the preparation and service of food; including, sanitation, menu planning, storeroom operation, food service consultant, and restaurant accounting. Students will supplement their work in theory with practical experience in the college kitchens and dining rooms. Additional practical experience is provided through on-the-job training in the local food establishments. Program: Food ServiceAssociate of Applied Science Degree I. General Requirements: A. A minimum of 93 credit hours. B. The required courses in major field, not to exceed 67 credit hours. C. English 101A (1), 101B (1), 101C (1), and 103B (3). D. At least 20 hours from the general education courses listed in the catalog, including at least one course in each of the four areas, Humanities, Life Science, Physical Science, Social Science. E. An overall G. P. A. of 2.00 or C. II. Specific Requirements: A. INTERIOR DESIGN PROGRAM (Offered in cooperation with Family Life Department) Interior Design is a two-year program of emphasis within the Family Life major. The program is designed to prepare men and women for employment in the major area of home decorating as a furnishing consultant, interior designer, or salesman in a furniture store. The training and preparation for this program include: designing fabrics, layout for interiors, color and textile relationships of fabrics, perspective drawing of interiors, business practices and apprenticeship in the area of interior design. Students thus supplement their work in theory with practical experience in a local store in the area. This on-the-job training will be provided only after the student has demonstrated a degree of competency in the field. For the program see Family Life area. LIFE INSURANCE SALES PROGRAM The Life Insurance Associate of Applied Science Degree program is designed to prepare students with basic life insurance principles, life insurance sales techniques, and preparation for the state of Utah licensing examination for prospective life insurance agents. 254 Technology Life Insurance Sales Program: Insurance SalesAssociate of Applied Science Degree I. CHARTERED LIFE UNDERWRITER PROGRAM The Certificate of Proficiency program for life insurance has been developed to give more specific training toward the working knowledge of the concepts and techniques used daily within the life insurance industry.
