Sixty of the 183 total hours must be upper division (courses numbered 300 and above). • Students obtaining one of the Physical Science/Mathematics/ Computer Science Composite Teaching majors must satisfy the College of Education Certification Program (see Secondary Education Program). Specific Requirements: • Students must complete a minimum of 69 credit hours from the areas listed below. Two or more areas of emphasis must be selected, and the listed required courses for each selected emphasis area must be completed. Course work beyond the emphasis requirements but counting toward the 69 credit total may be selected from the optional course list for each selected emphasis area, or from the entire course list of non-emphasis areas. The selected areas of emphasis will be identified on the official student records. • Chemistry courses required (28 hours) : Chem NS121 (5), 122 (5), 123 (5), 213 (5), 311 (4), and 312 (4). Optional courses: Chem 301 (4), 307 (5) and 313 (4). • Geology courses required (30 hours): Geol NS111 (5) (strongly recommended) or 101 (5) (acceptable), 112 (1), 122 (5), and either 121 (4) or the sequence 204 (4), 205 (4), and 206 (4). Specific Requirements: • The Social Science Composite Teaching major consists of an academic major in one of the following three areas: Geography, History, Political Science (see index for program). • As well as the above major, a total of 45 credit hours in three of the academic disciplines listed in areas 1 and 2 below. At least one of the three concentrations must be from those listed in area 1 and different from the area chosen as a major. A minimum of fourteen credit hours approved by the Social Science Composite Teaching major adviser must be completed in each of the three areas of concentration. Courses taken to meet this requirement may also be used to satisfy General Education area requirements if appropriate. Area 1 - Geography, History, Political Science.
