Show Nursing Nursing General Information PN to ADN: This entry option is open only to LPNs and other qualified health care workers. Entering students enroll for second year of the nursing program. Graduates write the NCLEX-RN at completion of the second curricular year. Straight BSN and RN to BSN: Entry options for achieving the baccalaureate degree are only open to RNs. Students directly enter baccalaureate nursing after graduation from the associate degree level, provided they meet admission criteria. Additionally, RNs from other associate degree or diploma programs, or those who have been out of school for an unspecified period of time, can enter the RN to BSN option. A two year upper division curriculum rounds out the nursing program at this level. Statewide Program All levels of the nursing program are offered throughout the State. Cooperative, contractual, and outreach campuses bring the WSU nursing program to all sector of the State. Cooperative Campuses: Straight ADN, and PN to ADN options are offered at cooperative campuses located at Utah State University in Logan and Southern Utah University in Cedar City/Dixie College in St. George. Contractual Campuses: Both baccalaureate options and PN to ADN options are provided through contractual affiliations with Intermountain Health Care Corporation (IHC) at the Salt Lake campus. Straight ADN and PN to ADN options are offered in affiliation with FHP of Utah Inc., at West Valley campus. Outreach Campuses: Developed in response to rural Utah needs, PN to ADN, and RN to BSN options are offered through outreach education. Dependent upon local needs and available funding, outreach offerings are available at various campuses throughout the State for specified time periods. Campus locations and entry level offerings vary from year to year. Accreditation The nursing program (PN, ADN and BSN) is fully accredited by the National League for Nursing (NLN). Admission Process For Entry Options Practical Nursing Telephone Contact: Rhoda Leatham 626-6128 Applicants must first apply for admission to Weber State. Applicants must also apply for admission to the practical nursing option. Admissions are once per year. Applications may be obtained from the PN admissions advisor, room 108B, College of Health Professions. Applications must be completed and on file by 14 February each year. Admission applications are reviewed by PN admissions and advancement committee members. Applicants are notified of committee decision by mail. Students are admitted summer quarter. All summer requisite courses must be successfully completed with a "C-" grade or better in order to advance into autumn quarter. Admission requirements include the following: • Graduation from high school or equivalent • Cumulative grade point average of 2.0 • ACT composite score of 16 • Admission to Weber State University • Completed application to practical nursing option. Admission requirements include the following: • Graduate from practical nursing program or equivalent • Completion of WSU general education requirements for practical nursing • Cumulative G.P.A. of 2.5 • ACT composite score of 20 • Admission to Weber State University Completed application to PN to ADN option • Successful completion of proficiency examination • Successful completion of challenge examinations if out-of-state PN graduate or Utah PN graduate of more than five years. Petersen General Requirements: • WSU Core Requirements (see index). • General Education requirements, including math competency (see index). • A grade of C+ or better is required in all upper division nursing courses. • An overall GPA of 2.6 must be maintained. 183 total credit hours are required; 60 of these hours must be upper division credits. Specific Requirements: • 9 hours upper division general electives. • Minimum of 51 upper division nursing hours. • Nursing courses required (51 hours): Nursing 301 (3), 309 (2), 310 (3), 311 (7), 323 (7), 350 (1), 351 (1), 399 (1), 424 (7), 425 (7), 450 (1), 451 (1), 486 (9), 499 (1). • Credit for Nursng 301, 311, 323, 350, 351, 424, and 425 may be earned by Special Examination. • Written verification of experience is required for Nursng 311,323, 350, 424, and 425. Required Support Courses (must be completed with C grade or better): • Chem NS111 (5), 112 (5), 113 (5). These courses are prerequisites to clinical nursing courses. PROGRAM: BACCALAUREATE NURSING HONORS OPTION General Requirements: • Enroll in General Honors program and complete ten (10) hours of Honors courses (see Interdisciplinary Programs section of catalog). • Maintain overall 3.3 GPA. • Fulfill requirements for Bachelor's of Science with a Nursing major. Specific Requirements: • In fulfilling requirements for a Bachelor's of Science with Nursing major, take at least twenty (20) credit hours of upper division Nursing Honors (to include NURSNG 480). • Complete a Nursing Honors Senior Project (NURSNG 480) for at least two (2) hours credit (maximum of six (6). • A student may receive Nursing Honors credit in any upper division nursing class. Permission from the program adviser must be sought before registering in a course for Honors credit. A written agreement should be reached with the appropriate professor regarding the work expected for Honors credit. (See the Interdisciplinary Programs section of the catalog.)
