Department of Pre-Architecture and Architectural Technology Assistant Professor G. M. Alexander The architectural program at the University of Utah requires five years to complete. Weber State College does not offer any of the specialized classes in architecture which are given at the University of Utah beginning with the Freshman year. Since these classes must be taken in sequence, a student will spend at least five years at the University regardless of previous classes which he may have taken at Weber State College. A student may not enter the five-year program at the University if he is required to take any remedial courses in mathematics or English. For this reason a student having deficiencies in these fields may find it to his advantage to spend one year at Weber State College before entering the five-year program at the University. In a few unusual cases two years at Weber mght be advisable. Any student contemplating registration in the School of Architecture at the U. of U. should arrange for a personal interview with the head of that department at the University before he begins any classes at Weber State College. The curriculum given below is designed for those students who need to make up deficiencies before applying for admission at the University. 198 PRE-ARCHITECTURE MAJOR (Example Only) Freshman Course Title AWS *Mathematics 18, 21, 34 Trigonometry, College Algebra, Analytic Geometry 5 5 5 English 1, 2, 3 Basic Communication 3 3 3 Art 43, 45, 46 Elementary Perspective, Basic Rendering 3 3 3 Economics 1, 2 Principles of Economics 3 3 **Engineering 1, 2, 3 Engineering Drawing, Descriptive Geometry 2 2 3 Orientation 1 College Orientation 2 Physical Education 1 Freshman Activities 1 1 1 Health Education 1 Personal Health Problems 2 18 17 18 Sophomore ***Mathematics 61, 62, 63 Differential and Integral Calculus 4 4 4 Physics 61, 62, 63 Engineering Physics 5 5 5 Humanities 1, 2,3 Introduction to Music, Art, Literature 3 3 3 Botany 61 Trees and Shrubs of Utah 4 Geology 11 Physical Geology 4 History 132 Modern European History 5 16 16 17 ARCHITECTURAL TECHNOLOGY (Example Only) Freshman Course Title AWS Art 43, 45, 46 Perspective and Basic Rendering 3 3 3 Engineering 1, 2, 3 Engineering Drawing, Descriptive Geometry 2 2 3 *Students lacking the pre-requisite for Mathematics 18 will begin with Mathematics 14 or 001. **Students taking one year only at Weber College should replace Engineering 1, 2, and 3 with Humanities 1, 2, and 3 or other general education electives. ***Students registering in Mathematics 61 must have completed all mathematics to and including analytic geometry (Mathematics 34). 199 |
