Show Obituary ~ “MRS. ALFREDIA B. LEWIS” In one sense there is no death. The life of a soul on earth lasts beyond his departure. You will always feel that life touching yours, that voice speaking to you, that spirit looking out of the eyes of others, talking to you in the familiar things she touched, worked with, loved as familiar friends. she lives on in the lives of all others that knew her. We pause today in memory of one so dear. Alfredia B. Lewis made her advent into this world as the only daughter of Isaac Bailey and Susie McComb on November 3, 1916, in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Following the death of her mother, she and her brother were reared by their maternal grandmother. Her formative education was acquired in Grady and-Pine Bluff, Arkansas where she graduated from high school. As a child, and a young adult, Alfredia was a member of the African Methodist Episcopal Church (A.M. E.). where she attended Sunday School and all church related activities regularly. She was always one to be actively involved in all spiritual outlets of church > and kingdom building. One of her favorite passages of scripture was “The ‘Twenty- Third Psalm”, for she truly knew that the Lord was her ‘Shepherd and she had no fear of want. Mrs. Lewis was united in marriage with, Wilmer Lewis and they were blessed with an adorable daughter, Barbara. | ae She reared Barbara in an atmosphere a: a Chistian home with love that germinated the seed that later blossomed into a fruitful life of service to God and her people. Mrs. Lewis was an usher and: sang in the choir. With her gentle smile, outgoing personality and her willingness to alway: help, Alfredia touched the lives of many whom she met. For many years, she was employed by the government in a housekeeping. capacity, later retiring in a supervisory position. She spent some time in the state of Washington where she took residency. She received an Associate Degree as assistant in Social Work. Upon her arrival in Denver, Mrs. Lewis continued to be both physically and spiritually involved. She became a member 0 of Prince of Peace Church of God in Christ under the dynamic leadership of Elder Coburn. She was a church mother, giving of herself, and always living up to her Master’ s expectations as an example for others to follow. She became involved in many civic organizations; was a member of the Federation of Colored Women’s Club, a volunteer for the Salvation Army work, did nursing home visitation, and was a member of Cancer Mount. Even when her health was seemingly declining, she continued to lead a full, well-rounded Christian life. She traveled extensively, world wide, | having gone to the Holy Land three times. She loved doing ceramics and was an expert seamstress. After surgery in August, her physical body weakened and she became alittle less active. ; | On December 15, 1988, sleep came down and gently closed the eyes of our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and mother-in-law. With outstretched hands — she walked into that unknown land, believing that He who safely brought her here would also take her safely back home; and so our beloved _ journeyed to the “Promised Land”. She will be greatly missed by her family whe loved ihe dearly, and all who knew her. | |
