Today, fourteen years later, the Have we? —Rebert Burns founded, the Highlander as its motto. This motto into the students of the motto has not changed. Here at Ben Lomond, we have the highest, the best ideals and traditions of any high school. However, we aren’t living up to them. Ben Lomond isn’t known any more for its traditions, its programs, or its spirit. Ben Lomond is known by other schools as “the home of the drunks.” The Scots aren’t friendly, and the only fighting Scots are hoods. Is this the reputation you want for your school? The time has come for us to wake up and get Ben Lomond growing. Seniors, this is your last year. In years to come, can say, “I went to B.L.” with pride, or will you be ashamed to mit it? It is your job to work for school pride. You can do by supporting your officers and the administration. Work the school, not against it. you adthis for Juniors and sophomores, Ben Lomond’s future is up to you. You can make or break it by your actions. Remember: There is no higher honor than that of being a Scot, but this privilege carries responsibility along with it. School pride is a job for you and every other loyal Scot. When I embarked on the task of cleaning the garbage cans, I sure as hell was unhappy about it, but the job turned _ out to be very easy. Most of the garbage was on the floors, which were not in my jurisdiction. The rest of it was in the fountains, but that wasn’t really too hard to scrape out. Students To Be Honored Plans to honor a home economics senior got under way this week at Ben Lomond High School with the announcement of a special award to be presented under the auspices of the homemaking department. The award, a gift of sterling silver flatware, will be given to a senior whose ability, progress and interest in the field of homemaking education has been officers directed the annual presentation of the Open House Proves Big Attraction As is another successful tradition at Ben Lomond, the Girls’ Association sponsored the Christmas Open House December first. Dr. Ellis McAllister started this custom during Ben Lomond’s first year, 1953. He felt that the students of the school should become aware of the projects that the girls of the school were accomplishing. Another important objective of the Open House was to promote the Christmas Spirit and to put the ‘‘intangible” things back into Christmas. This project proved to be such a success that soon parents wanted to see what their daughters were doing. Mothers were invited to come in the morning and enjoy this exhibit. Only a few of the mothers were able to come in the morning, so the time was extended to the school hours.
