SI student leaders work in collaboration with the course professor and SI coordinator. • Targets haditionally difficult courses • A nationally recognized and certified program • Volunteer group study sessions available in all disciplines • Peer leaders have completed the course with an A or A- • Courses with SI sessions are designated in semester schedule EDUCATION ACCESS AND OUTREACH Telephone: 801-626-7006 Location: Student Services, Room 150 Website: Pre-college educational outreach opportunities and programs that include K-16 partnerships and encourage underrepresented students who are traditionally non-college bound to pursue and successfully complete a post-secondary education that meets the mutual needs of the university, public school system and community. Y.E.S. (Youth Education to Success) Expansion of High School Outreach Program provides college access resources through guidance, support and mentoring for underrepresented students from target high schools in Weber/Davis school districts to increase participation in post-secondary education. Services also include broader outreach and support and services for K-12 students and families (i.e. MYC, Transition Night). "Gateway to Education"Partnership Partnership with local community agencies, Ogden School Dishict, and Ogden-Weber Applied Technology College that provides an alliance for partners who work collaboratively to increase college awareness, information dissemination, and educational support services to parents and families with the goal of high school completion, participation in post-secondary education, and workforce development. Student-To-Student Outreach (S2S) College mentors provide college-readiness opportunities for underrepresented youth through mentorship, academic tutoring and on-campus activities. S2S primarily serves secondary schools in Ogden School Dishict to better prepare junior high and high school students for a post-secondary education. Priority is given to GEAR UP, Educational Talent Search and AVID classrooms; partnerships also include after-school programs. Serving as a critical component, university students receive the opportunity to have a rewarding job and acquire professional and personal skills that will enhance their college education. Services include: • Mentor/Tutor tiaining • Academic Support (rn-school and after-school) • Mentoring opportunities • On-campus activities and conferences • Summer programs EDUCATIONAL TALENT SEARCH (TRIO PROGRAM) Telephone: 801-626-7006 Location: Student Services, Room 150 Educational Talent Search (ETS) is a federally-funded program that is designed to help primarily underrepresented students who are low-income and first in their family to attend and graduate from college. In partnership with Ben Lomond and Ogden High Schools and Highland, Mound Fort and Mount Ogden Junior High Schools, the program serves 600 students, grades 7-12 from five target schools in the Ogden School District each year. Goals are to provide educational support services that represent a real opportunity to complete high school, enroll in a post-secondary program, and receive financial aid and/or a scholarship. Services include: • Academic advising • Career and college planning • Admission application assistance • Financial aid/scholarship assistance • College entrance examination preparation • Referrals to community resources • Referrals to tutoring/mentoring programs • Field trips to colleges and cultural programs • College resources/workshops for parents and families GEAR UP PARTNERSHIP (TRIO PROGRAM) Telephone: 801-626-7006 Location: Student Services, Room 150 GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a federal partnership grant with the Ogden School District that serves approximately 900 students in the three Junior Highs—Mount Ogden, Highland, and Mound Fort—and then advances into the high schools, Ben Lomond and Ogden, to provide college readiness services to a cohort of students and then follows them from 7th through 12th grade. Program goals include increasing post- secondary preparation, academic performance, high school graduation, post-secondary participation, knowledge of post-secondary educational opportunities and financing, educational expectations and activities, and preparation of secondary teachers and staff to teach and serve students.
