Acceptance into the BSN program (see the Application Requirements on page 293). » Minor: Not required. » Grade Requirements: A minimum grade of "B-" or better is required in all upper division nursing courses, and a grade of "C" or better is required for all support courses. » Credit Hour Requirements: A total of 120 credit hours is required for a Bachelor of Science Degree. Of the 120 hours, 40 must be upper division level (UD) (courses numbered 3000 or higher). The nursing curriculum provides 37 UD hours leaving 3 credits open for an UD elective. Students entering the BSN program with an Associate's Degree usually have enough General Education credits for graduation. Written validation of experience is required. Upper Division Elective (3 credit hours) Nursing departmental honors Nursing students may seek departmental honors while in the Baccalaureate program. Please contact the School of Nursing for advisement and permission prior to enrolling in Honors courses. Requirements for Nursing Departmental Honors: 1. Maintain cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher. 2. Obtain a final grade of "A" or "A-" in all courses which the stu dent is completing an honors component. 3. Meet with the School of Nursing Honors Advisor upon first entering the BSN program (during the first week of classes). 4. Complete 12 hours of honors credit in designated BSN nurs ing courses, as well as completion of a senior project in NRSG 4840 "Honors Seminar in Nursing" (3 credits) for 15 credits total. Course work should advance and/or complement the end project. 5. Final semester of BSN program, register for NRSG 4840, "Honors Seminar in Nursing". The focus of this course is to complete the final project. All students will present their projects to a community audience in some manner as a requirement for NRSG 4840. Most students will prepare a poster presentation or a short oral presentation for the Honors Banquet. 6. Maintain honors expectations in academic, professional, and student conduct. See WSU School of Nursing Student Handbook. NURSING COURSES - NRSG NRSG 1030. Foundations of Nursing Practice (3) Nursing concepts are introduced which will be built upon throughout the nursing curriculum as students care for clients throughout the lifespan. The development of safe and effective basic nursing skills is emphasized as the students utilize the nursing process to meet the physiological, psychosocial, health promotional and maintenance needs of clients. Therapeutic communication techniques are presented as a means of promoting a caring approach to client interactions. Students are also socialized into the professional role of nursing and understand how to interact as part of a health care team. Credit hours (3): 3 lecture hours per week. Co-requisites: NRSG 1031, 1050. Must be taken concurrently with NRSG 1031. NRSG 1031. Foundations of Nursing Clinical (3) A companion course taught in concert with NRSG 1030.
