Each of the women's clubs is organized to serve a distinctive purpose: Otyokwa, to promote the spirit of friendship and good sportsmanship; LaDianaeda, to further culture, beauty and friendliness; TriVesta, to promote interest in culture, sociability, and the home; Iota Tau Kappa, to study etiquette and to promote friendliness; Riding Club, to foster an interest in riding; and Whip Club, to promote school spirit. Likewise, each of the men's clubs is designed for a special purpose: Excelsior, to promote the raising of college ideals; Phoenix, to study student government and promote student activities; Frenisti, to further aesthetic interests; and Phi Rho Pi, national honorary de bating fraternity, the stated object of which is: "Through the furtherance of the arts of speech to crown man's glorious past with a still more glorious future." The Orion Club and the Weber Club are honorary, their membership being restricted to meritorious students who annually win awards in recognition of their services to the student body. Student Activities The student activity program prepares for social responsibility and leadership, and for appreciation of the cultural and aesthetic sources of enjoyment in leisure time. In the belief that fulfillment of the objectives of a junior college education are best realized when students are prepared for the fullest participation in life, for social responsibility and leadership, and for appreciation of the cultural and aesthetic sources of enjoyment, Weber College encourages a student activity program which provides for such development. The Committee on Student Activities consists of five faculty members and six student representatives. This committee is responsible for calendaring all student activities, exclusive of athletics, and supervising all social activities. Clubs and student body units sponsor a choice dance program. The social calendar is rich in its offering of planned affairs. One of the outstanding features is the high quality dance program sponsored by the active clubs and student body units of the college. Once a year each social club: Excelsior, Otyokwa, LaDianaeda, and Phoenix, is host to a choice social evening of dancing. During the year different student body units sponsor traditional dances of an informal and formal nature. In the autumn quarter are scheduled the President's Reception, the Associated Women Students' Ball, and the Christmas Dance; in the winter quarter, the Associated Women Students' Ball, the Acorn Dance, and the College Prom; in the spring quarter, the Associated Women Students' Spring Formal, and the Reception to the Graduates. The Department of Music offers opportunities for vocal and instrumental group organization.
