Allred English 39. English Literature. A survey of English literature from 1500 to 1660. Detailed analysis of the form and Content of the prose and poetry of the period are made for the purpose of creating an intelligent appreciation of the literature. Three quarter hours. Autumn. Monson English 40. English Literature. A survey of English literature from 1660 to 1800. A careful study of the social, philosophical, and political ideas of the period is made in order to clarify the meaning and create an enjoyment of the poetry and prose of the period. Three quarter hours. Winter. Monson English 41. English Literature. A survey of English literature from 1798 to 1900. This course is designed to teach the student to appreciate the literature of the major writers of the period. For this reason, considerable time is spent in discussing the social, philosophical, and economic problems which confronted the writers. Designed to familiarize the student with the most noteworthy literary products of England and America since 1900. A course providing instruction and extensive practice in grammar, reading, dictation, and conversation with a view to developing an ability to understand French without translation.
