INTELLIGENCE TESTS An English placement test and a general intelligence test were givem senior students oif Ogden High today in the Central Junior High school. These tests are given by the state department of educa¬tion under the auspices of the Uni¬versity of Utah to all graduating seniors of the state. CHATTER AND CHAFF One of the most noticeable fea¬tures of the Fiesta parade was Jim Noblitt in complete uniform. Did you hear about the lady from Bear River who sent a long dis¬tance call to Jimmie Hoggan ask¬ing him what he ate before the marathon run? Some of these snapshots that are going in the yearbook make one wonder if photography is really an art. Not quite five weeks of rain until commencement day. "Sweethearts" will be on parade Thursday and Friday nights at the Weber High. Grace is the girl with the tickets. Tell her where you'd like to sit. Mr. Merrill says we'll have no tight-wire performers practicing on the wires that are supporting the flagpole. This applies to John¬ny Carver, Bill Reeder and all oth¬ers affected with the "springing fever." Ogden High's baseball team opened the season with a win over North Junior last week. Now you know we've got a ball team, don't you? Congratulate Gordon Van Buren, gang, he is state A. A. U. champion in fancy diving. Let's see, now. What is it April showers bring? MARY FOR QUEEN Mary Hill, student at O. H. S. last year, is a candidate for Utonian queen at the University of Utah. Of forty-eight girls who were; primarily chosen for their' "pulchritude and personality" to contest for this honor, only eight now remain in the semi-finals. Mary is one of the eight. Good luck. Mary. APRIL 28, 1929. IN TWO EVENTS Jim Hoggan, winner of the re¬cent Weber gymnasium cross coun¬try, will perform in the mile and half-mile events. He is being groomed by Coach Dixon Kapple to make a fine showing this sea¬son. Doxey Stone, second in the re¬cent cross country, will also per¬form in the distance events. Ogden will be represented in every event at the big series. Hugh Mayer, all-around performer, will carry the hopes of the Tigers in the all-around feature. He looks like a serious threat, Coach Kapple states. SHOWS PROMISE Wakefield has been showing un¬usual promise in the dashes. He will compete in both the century and furlong. Kapple will also take a number of tennis performers to Provo for competition in the singles and dou-bles events. The meet this week end will place the Tiger and Warrior ath¬letes in fine condition for the northern division meet to be held [May 3 at Logan. Weber High school this season is without the services of sure point winners. The Warriors, however, have a large squad out for the team. Coach Dick Thorne today was undecided as to his selection of men for the Provo series. He ex¬pects to make a decision some time Wednesday. Penman, Brown and Gladwell look like sure shots to make the jaunt to Provo. They are all dis¬tance runners. Brown and Glad- well were forced out of the recent cross country run here due to at¬tacks of cramps. Penman had the distinction of being the first Warrior to cross the finish line. APRIL 30, 1929 FLAGS TO BE GIVEN SCHOOL Citizens Urged To Witness Ceremony At O. H. S. Thursday Two flags will be presented to Ogden High school Thursday morn¬ing at ceremonies commencing at 8:30 o'clock. One flag will be presented by Service Star Legion, Ogden chap¬ter. The other will be presented by the Daughters of the American Revolution. The program on the high school campus near the flag staff will be conducted under the direction of Colonel T. H. Cunningham, com¬mandant of the R. O. T. C. One of the flags will be run up the staff. Presidents of both organizations today urged that there be a full attendance of members at the ceremonies. The importance of the event, the leaders said, justifies a large attendance. |
