Show 30 Weber College maintains a Student Aid Fund administered by the Student Aid Committee. Deserving students are assisted in finding employment at the College or in industry. The Weber College Faculty Women maintains a small loan fund to assist a limited number of students. The loans are paid back to the organization by September of the school year after the loan is made. Application for this service may be made to the Weber College Treasurer. The Ogden Rotary Club maintains a sizeable loan fund for worthy students. The Wheelwright Student-Faculty Loan Fund was established June 5, 1946, by David R. Wheelwright, member of the first graduating class at the first formal graduating exercises held by Weber Academy in 1896. The contribution of $2,000 was made with the idea that it be a perpetual trust fund to be loaned to worthy needy students and also to faculty members. Placement and Follow-up Service The purpose of the Weber College Placement and Follow-up Service is two fold: (1) to assist students to obtain part-time work while attending the College, and (2) to assist graduates to obtain permanent positions. The College works in cooperation with the United States Employment Service to place every student who is seeking employment, and to follow-up at all times the employment needs of the business and industrial firms of the State. Out-of-Class Activities Weber College considers an important program in its curriculum to be its out-of-class activities which include student government, student activities sponsored by students and departments of the College, and community activities. STUDENT GOVERNMENT The Associated Students of Weber College, which includes all students who have paid all fees prescribed by joint action of the State Board of Education and the Associated Students of Weber College, extends the privileges of the right to vote in all elections under the control of the student body, the right to become a candidate for office within the rules and regulations governing these positions, and the right to such other privileges as may be determined by the Board of Control. The executive officers of the organization consist of a president, a vice-president, a secretary, a treasurer, and a business manager. The appointive officers consist of the staffs of the various authorized student body publications,, manager of athletics, manager of dramatics, cheer leaders, and such other appointive officers as may be provided by the Board of Control. The Association serves to promote the scholastic and social welfare of the College, to insure a spirit of harmony and cooperation, and to regulate student activities. The Board of Control consists of the following voting members: Student body executive officers: President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, Business Manager; Sophomore Class President, and two elective representatives from the Sophomore Class; Freshman Class President, and two elective representatives from the Freshman Class; a member of the Weber College Faculty, named by the President of the College; and a faculty member named by the Board of Control. The College Treasurer is an ex-officio member. This membership may be increased to include such appointive officers, without the power to vote, as may be determined by the Board of Control. 31 This Board is the executive body that administers such measures as are necessary and proper to put into operation the various provisions of the Constitution of the Associated Students of Weber College. Some of these provisions are the apportionment of student body funds, the appointment of committees and certain designated staff officers, and a program of student activities such as dances, parties, and assemblies. The Sophomore Class includes all men and women of sophomore standing. It is organized to promote class interests, interpret and preserve Weber traditions, initiate freshmen, and to assume leadership in matters of social welfare. The Freshman Class includes all men and women of freshman standing. It is organized to carry on activities of a competitive nature designed for novitiates of Weber. Each class elects officers to the position of president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer. During the Spring Quarter the Freshman Class selects a faculty adviser to direct the class activities for the sophomore year. During the Autumn Quarter the new Freshman Class selects an adviser to direct the class activities for the freshman year. The Associated Women Students, which includes all women within the College, aims to develop activities that will promote fellowship and democracy; cooperate in all matters pertaining to student life; and provides a medium through which Weber College women students may express their interests.The officers include president, vice-president, secretary-treasurer, freshman reporter, and freshman representative. The Council consists of the officers, one sophomore girl from Whip Club and the Women's Athletic Association, the women vice-presidents of the Freshman and Sophomore Classes, one freshman girl and one sophomore girl from each social club, and the captain of the Co-ed Counselors. Thej number of unaffiliated representatives in Council must be two-thirds of the number of affiliated representatives. Regular activities sponsored by the A.W.S. include a tea in honor of women of the Freshman Class, a Get-Acquainted Party, a Mother's Tea, a dancing party each quarter, and Charm Week, The Co-ed Counselors, composed of outstanding sophomore women, work under the direction of the officers of the Associated Women Students to assist women of the Freshman Class in orienting themselves to the College life. Weber College Associated Men Students, which includes all men students of the College, directs the interests of men. In addition to a president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer, five freshmen council- men are elected to the governing body of this organization. STUDENT ACTIVITIES Student-sponsored The Student Activities Committee consists of faculty members and student representatives who are responsible for calendaring all student activities exclusive of athletics, and supervising all social activities. Weekly assembly programs are prepared under the direction of the Assembly Committee who encourage programs that are creative, educational, and cultural in nature. Attendance at assembly is not compulsory. Student-sponsored activities include the following clubs and organizations. Social clubs for women are Otyokwa, La Dianaeda, Chanodo, Tiki Kapa Kapa, Iota Tau Kappa, Sophvita, Kalamata, and Sharmea. Those for men are Excelsior, Phoenix, Frenisti, Sigma Delta Pi, Vikings, Skull, and Alpha Rho Omega. Social clubs of the College encourage membership for only those students who show worthy school citizenship and good scholarship. Student membership is limited to students of junior college standing who carry ten credit hours of work with an average grade of C. |
