A study of the inspection, techniques to determine the airworthiness of aircraft, familiarization with the specification number of material, and various types of hardware; also the requirements of aircraft as to balance, rigging, and adjustment. A study of the various engines used in aircraft; also the four cycle principles, including carburetor, compression, and ignition. Five quarter hours. Autumn. Staff 65. Aircraft Engine Accessories, A study of the design and principles of operation of aircraft accessories, carburetors, fuel inspection systems, lubricating system, magnetos, operator starters, fuel pumps, and hydraulic systems. Five quarter hours. Winter. Staff 66. Construction and Design of Aircraft Instruments. A study of flight instruments and other types of industry instruments, including the purpose, construction, principles of operation, and pertinent Civil Air Regulations covering these instruments. Five quarter hours. Spring. Staff LINK TRAINING PROGRAM The Link Training Program is designed especially for on-the-job trainees desiring a knowledge of instruments and instrument-rating. The skill and information is taught on an individual basis and by appointment. The amount of Link Trainer time allowable will be in keeping with current regulations set up by the Civil Aeronautics Authority and also the Veterans Administration. Two quarter hours. Training in the fundamental principles and practices of roughing out metal, metal bumping, buffing, sanding, leading, shrinking, welding, and the metal finishing of fenders. Five quarter hours. Autumn. Vandenburg 52. Automotive Refinishing. Instruction and training in the care and use of spray equipment, preparing the surfaces for refinishing; fundamental procedures in priming, surfacing, color matching, and blinding, touch up, stripping, and the application of lacquer and synthetic enamels. Five quarter hours. Winter. Vandenburg 53. Automobile Body Repair. Training in the placement and repair of body parts, such as cowl panel, trunk, lid rocker sills, side, floor, top and door panels; also checking and alignment of the automobile body. Training in the replacement, repair, and lubrication of the auto body mechanism, such as Window and ventilator regulators, door and seat adjusters, and windshield wiper mechanisms. Five quarter hours. Autumn. Vandenburg 55. Principles and Practice of Construction. Alignment, straightening and servicing the automobile chassis, including axles, front wheel supervision, steering gears, springs, drive shaft, and brakes. Five quarter hours. Winter. Vandenburg 56. Automobile Trim and Upholstering. Training in the repair, cleaning, and replacement of the auto body trim such as floor covering, headlining, door and quarter trim pads, wind lace and trim moulding, and seat cushions; also, the graining and refinishing of the dash and garnish mouldings. Technical instruction in automobile sheet metal bumping and finishing, including analyzing damage, name of tools, and uses and care of tools; also safety practices, metal movement, and forming use of acetylene torch for welding, shrinking, and soldering the filling of metals. Technical instruction in theory, operation, and set up of paint spray equipment such as compressors, transformers, air lines, and spray guns; also color composition, paint mixing, surface preparation and finishing, marking and lettering.
