The Office of Admissions and Records is a service office for all Weber State College students from the time of their first inquiry about the college until they graduate. The ACT (American College Test) is required of all students applying, as freshmen, for admission to Weber State College. Weber State College will admit qualified freshmen students on the basis of their ACT assessment data. Students who take the ACT and request their scores be sent to Weber State College will receive an acceptance notice in the mail without their having to apply. Students who live in areas without access to an ACT test center or who are otherwise unable to take the ACT may apply by using a regular application for admission form. Application forms are available at all Utah high schools and at the Weber State College Admissions Office, Administration Building, Ogden, Utah 84408. The application, when used, should be on file in the Admissions Office thirty days before registration for the quarter in which the applicant expects to enroll. Every applicant for freshman admission is encouraged to submit his application anytime after the last semester of his junior year in high school. A $10.00, non-refundable, application fee must accompany each application. Applications are incomplete and will not be processed until the fee has been received in the Admissions Office. Students should submit the fee in the form of a check or money order, unless submitted in person to the Admissions Office. REQUIREMENTS FOR ADMISSION TO A DEGREE PROGRAM A prospective student may qualify for admission to a degree program in one of the following ways: 1. High School CredentialA student may be accepted as a fully matriculated student working towards a baccalaureate degree by presenting to the Admissions Office an official transcript from an accredited high school showing the applicant has satisfactorily completed a full high school course and has met the requirements for graduation. If the applicant plans to major in a specific area in college, he should plan his high school program accordingly. As many courses as possible should be taken in related areas to give the student the best preparation for that major. Students entering ill-prepared for their major may be required to take preparatory courses in college. All Utah high school graduates should strive to achieve a grade point average of at least 2.0 in high school work. (A = 4.0, B = 3.0, C = 2.0, D = 1.0, E = 0.) Non-resident or out-of-state applicants should present a 2.2 high school grade point average. Applicants not meeting this standard will be reviewed for admission by the Admissions Committee. 2. Admission by Other Than High School Credential: a. ACTA person 18 years of age or over may use the ACT test results to satisfy entrance requirements if he scores in the fiftieth percentile of entering freshman students. b. GEDA person 18 years of age or over may also be admitted by passing the high school level General Educational Development Test with scores specified by the College. However, in order for an 18-year-old to qualify to take the GED tests, it is necessary that (1) the high school class of which he was a member has been graduated, or (2) he has not attended high school for at least one year. It is the student's responsibility to obtain written verification of either of these conditions from his high school. 9 |
