Show Instructional Development The members of the Big Sky Athletic Conference are Weber State College, Gonzaga University, University of Idaho, Idaho State University, University of Montana, Montana State University, Boise State University, and Northern Arizona University. Region 7 of the Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women includes schools in Wyoming, Utah, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico. The program is under the direction of Gary Crompton as Athletic Director. Athletic publicity is under the direction of John Peterson. Dr. Russell N. Hirst serves as team physician in all sports; Ben Davidson, as trainer; and Ronald Flygare, as equipment manager. The aim of the unit is to assist faculty in applying a systematic process to designing instruction. This process involves identifying the objectives, instructional procedures and evaluation techniques to be developed, implemented and monitored in improving instruction. The unit is supported by an instructional media production area which produces a wide range of materials used for instruction. The specific activities presently engaged in are: 1 Assistance in the formulation of faculty, department, school, and College plans for identifying instruction goals and procedures for meeting these goals. 2. In-service training of faculty in applying instructional development techniques. 3. Identification of areas of overlap among departments and schools where combined instructional efforts would be more beneficial to the students. 4. Identification and application of the proper instructional equipment to meet instructional needs. 5. Application of evaluation systems to insure quality programs. OFFICE OF RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT The Office of Research and Development provides support to members of the faculty in locating sources of funds for sponsored projects, proposal processing and editing, proposal budget reviews ,follow-up contacts with sponsoring agencies, and administration help in managing project awards. 286 Information Services Specifically, a library of "sources of funds" resources and periodicals is available for the use of the faculty and staff in the Office of Research and Development. Staff guidance is provided in the use of the resource materials, and assistance is available to make contacts with the potential sponsors for members of the faculty. Workshops are provided at frequent intervals for members of the faculty and staff on proposal writing. Proposal editing and proposal processing are important aspects of the office function. Periodic contacts are made both in person and by telephone with potential sponsors of the sponsored projects. The Office of Research and Development maintains a current status of funding and project development information. Pamphlets and regulations of many potential sponsors are on file and available for Weber State College faculty and staff members. The Office of Research and Development provides cognizant administrative assistance to members of the faculty for project awards made to the College on their behalf. Project awards are activated by the Office of Research and Development, and ORD provides liaison assistance between the College and the awarding agency. Fellowship information is provided to students and faculty and the Office of Research and Development functions as liaison for the College, students and the government for tax exempt students. The Office of Research and Development has been designated by the College President as the coordinating and clearinghouse office for contacts with our congressmen. Expert and willing assistance is available for congressional contacts. COLLEGE DEVELOPMENT The Office of College Development combines a variety of functions relating to private fund raising activities of the college including capital campaigns, annual giving, deferred gifts, gifts of kind, foundation giving and special projects. The identification, cultivation and solicitation of prospective donor sources is coordinated through the Development Office in order to provide continuity, increased effectiveness and to avoid duplication of effort and proliferation of appeals directed to the private sector. All private gifts including real property, gifts in kind, cash, securities, etc. are officially receipted and acknowledged and a record of all donors maintained by the office in accordance with established audit procedures. The Weber State College Development Fund, comprised of representatives of the campus, community and alumni was authorized by the Institutional Council as an official agency or the cultivation, solicitation and acknowledgement of private gifts and serves as an additional resource for private fund raising. The Office of Alumni Relations, which also functions through the Development Office, provides a variety of programs and events designed to maintain involvement and support of former students of the College. An annual giving program appealing to alumni, corporations, business, foundations and friends seeks to obtain private support for present operational needs and capital campaigns. Additional funds are also sought through wills, trusts, bequests, life insurance and other forms of deferred giving for long-range needs of the institution. INFORMATION SERVICES The Office of Information Services has responsibilities in many areas. These include the identification of the college's several publics, their needs as they relate to the college and the articulation of how the college serves them. The office is also responsible to operating departments of the College to help them enhance their activities through publications and events.
