Show Education Child and Family Studies Program: Child Development MajorBachelor Degree I. General Requirements: A. Specific course requirements of the college (see index). B. Bachelor Degree General Education requirements (see index). C. A minor is not required. D. Child Development majors must have a C or better in major courses. E. An overall G. P. A. of 2.00 or C is required. F. 183 total hours are required for this degree. G. Sixty of the 183 total hours must be upper division (courses numbered 300 and above). II. Specific Requirements: A. Two twenty-credit hour areas of concentration or one twenty-credit hour area of concentration plus 25 additional credits of adviser-approved related courses. B. Child and Family Studies courses required (48 credit hours): Family Life 101 (3), 150 (5), 251 (3), 252 (3), 340 (1), 351 (3), 352 (6), 353 (2), 355 (3), 356 (3), 450 (3), 451 (3), 470 (3), 499A (3-4). C. Child and Family Studies courses to elect from: Family Life 140 (5), 315 (3), 335 ( 3), 483 (1-5), 492 (1-3). D. Recommended course: Child and Family Studies 486 (2-9). Program: Early Childhood Education MajorBachelor Degree I. General Requirements: A. Specific requirements of the college (see index). B. Bachelor Degree General Education requirements (see index). Psychology 101 (5) in the Social Science area is recommended for Early Childhood Education majors. C. A minor is not required. D. Early Childhood Education majors must have a C or better in major courses. E. Early Childhood Education majors must achieve an overall 2.25 G. P. A. F. 183 total hours are required for this degree. G. Sixty of the 183 total hours must be upper division (courses numbered 300 and above). H. Students obtaining a Early Childhood Education major must satisfy the School of Education Certification Program by completing the following courses: Education 195 (1), 300 (3), 324 (3), 325 (6), 326 (6), 360 (4), 488 (15). II. Specific Requirements: A. One 30-credit hour concentration in an adviser-approved subject matter area or two 15-credit hour concentrations in adviser-approved subject matter areas. B. Child and Family Studies courses required (34 credit hours): 150 (5), 251 (3), 252 (3), 351 (3), 352 (6), 353 (2), 355 (3), 356 (3), 451 (3), 470 (3). C. Support courses required (25 credit hours): Art 250 (3); Music 169 (3), 213 (1), 320 (3); Theatre Arts 420 (3); Education 343 (3); Communication 102 (3); English 330 (3); Physical Education 362 (3) or 364 (2). 118 Education Child and Family Studies Program: Family Life MajorBachelor Degree I. A concentration outside of the Child and Family Studies Department is required. D. Family Life majors must have a C or better in major courses. E. An overall G. P. A. of 2.00 or C is required. F. 183 total hours are required for this degree. G. Sixty of the 183 total hours must be upper division (courses numbered 300 or above). II. Specific Requirements: A. Option I: Family Life General 1. A minimum of 60 hours within the Department of Child and Family Studies. 2. A twenty-hour emphasis approved by an adviser and the department in a discipline of the student's choice outside of the Department of Family Life. 3. Child and Family Studies courses required: 101 (3), 110 (3) or 115 (3), 120 (4), 150 (5), 335 (3), 499A or 499B (3-4). a. Select a minimum of two courses from each of the following five areas: (1) Food and Nutrition: Child and Family Studies 204 (5), 300 (3), 402 (3). (2) Management and Consumer Education: Child and Family Studies 110 (3), 115 (3), 315 (3). (3) Clothing and Textiles: Child and Family Studies 130 (3), 133 (3), 230 (4), 235 (3), 330 (3). b. Select a minimum of 3 courses from each of the following areas: (1) Family Relations: Child and Family Studies 141 (2), 142 (3), 340 (5), 440 (3), 445 (3). (2) Child Development: Child and Family Studies 251 (3), 252 (3), 355 (3), 450 (3), 470 (3). B. Option II: Special Emphasis 1. A minimum of 60 hours within the Department of Child and Family Studies. 2. A twenty-hour emphasis approved by an adviser and the department in a discipline of the student's choice outside of the Department of Child and Family Studies. 3. Child and Family Studies courses required: 101 (3), 110 (3) or 115 (3), 120 (4), 150 (5), 335 (3), 499A or 499B (3-4). 4. Additional hours within the department by contract according to student goals. (This emphasis allows a student to concentrate in the areas of foods, clothing, management, or interior design.) C. Option III: Family Relations Emphasis 1. A minimum of 60 hours within the Department of Child and Family Studies. 2. A twenty-hour emphasis approved by an adviser and the department in a discipline of the student's choice outside of the Department of Child and Family Studies. 3. Child and Family Studies courses required: 101 (3); 110 (3) or 115 (3); 140 (5), 150 (5), 315 (3), 340 (5), 440 (3), 445 (3), 486 (2-9); 483 (3) or 499B (3). 4. An additional twenty credit hours to be selected from: 141 (2), 142 (3), 251 (3), 300 (3), 335 (3), 356 (3), 450 (3); 483 (2) or 499B (1). 119 |
