Show Technology Food Service Program: Food ServiceInstitutional Certificate I. General Requirements: A. An overall G. P. A. of 2.00 or C. B. 45 total hours is required. II. Specific Requirements: A. INTERIOR DESIGN PROGRAM (Offered in cooperation with Child and Family Studies Department) Interior Design is a two-year program of emphasis within the Family Life major. The program is designed to prepare men and women for employment in the major area of home decorating as a furnishing consultant, interior designer, or salesman in a furniture store. The training and preparation for this program include: designing fabrics, layout for interiors, color and textile relationships of fabrics, perspective drawing of interiors, business practices and apprenticeship in the area of interior design. Students thus supplement their work in theory with practical experience in a local store in the area. This on-the-job training will be provided only after the student has demonstrated a degree of competency in the field. For the program see Child and Family Studies area. LIFE INSURANCE SALES PROGRAM The Life Insurance Associate of Applied Science Degree program is designed to prepare students with basic life insurance principles, life insurance sales techniques, and preparation for the state of Utah licensing examination for prospective life insurance agents. English 101A (1), 101B (1), 101C (1), and 103B (3). D. At least 20 hours from the general education courses listed in the catalog, including at least one course in each of the five areas. Humanities, Life Science, Physical Science, Social Science and Other. E. An overall G. P. A. of 2.00 or C. II. Specific Requirements: A. Distributive Technology courses required (37 credit hours): Distributive Technology 110 (3), 11 4(4), 116 (3), 130 (5), 160 (3), 189 (1-9), 250 (5), 256 (5). B. Support courses required (8 credit hours): Finance 301 (4), 305 (4). C. The following optional courses may be substituted for required courses by acquiring approval from the Department Chairman: Distributive Technology: 201 (3), 202 (3), 203 (3), 204 (3), 205 (3), 206 (3), 207 (3), 208 (3), 209 (3), 210 (3), 289 (1-9). 254 Technology Life Insurance Sales CHARTERED LIFE UNDERWRITER PROGRAM The Institutional Certifiacte program for life insurance has been developed to give more specific training toward the working knowledge of the concepts and techniques used daily within the life insurance industry. Students who do not have the basic skills in shorthand may substitute Accounting 102 or Business Law 320 to replace OA 123. C. The following optional courses may be substituted for required courses in Distributive Technology by acquiring approval from the Department Chairman: Distributive Technology 116 (3), 120 (5), 130 (5), 140 (3), 238 (3), 256 (5), 289 (1-9). SALES AND RETAILING PROGRAM The sales and retail merchandising area of Distributive Technology is designed to prepare men and women for employment in various capacities in the major areas of Direct Sales and Retail Merchandising; including training for salesman, (auto, insurance, real estate, etc.); retail trade areas (salesmen, buyers, sales promoters, and advertising); mid-management areas of sales managers, buying managers, credit managers and wholesale managers. Students will supplement their work in theory with practical on-the-job training in local business establishments receiving up to 9 hours of credit for their work experience. 255 |
