Show The Pioneer Post Volume III Issue 2 Marriott-Slaterville City Newsletter February 2001 1195 West 400 North, MSC, UT 84404 (627-1919, Fax 627-1880) We have finished going over the General Plan and have made a few changes, but not many. We appreciate all the work the Planning Commission and the public has put into this community planning process. Staying involved can help keep our community the way we all want it to be. We want the 'city' to be in name only, and want to keep as much 'country' and local control as possible. We appreciate the many volunteers in our community and encourage you to continue to help. If you feel you could help in some way, please let the mayor or a council member know. If you see concerns within our community, please let us know. Our job on the council is to serve the members of the community, we will try our best. Thank you for your support. Respectfully, Council Member Marriott-Slaterville Voters Are Above Average I am proud of MSC001 Voting Precinct! We consistently have an above average voting record, as compared to our county, state, and nation. We have had no problem with chads, hanging, dimpled, or pregnant, and our senior citizens are smart enough to understand the ballot and what or for whom they are voting. If anyone has a question on voting procedures, they are wise enough to ask a judge for help. At the last bond election we had 806 registered voters and 140 of them, or 17% voted. This is not a great percentage, but better than the 11.4% in Weber County as a whole. We get a larger percentage in national elections, and for the township and incorporation issues the voter turn-out was great! Perhaps we need to reevaluate the importance of using our franchise. Not voting means that our vote is actually going to the winner, and that may not be what we want. This fall several Council seats and the Mayor will be decided in our municipal elections. If you are not registered, you can do so at the weber County Clerk's Office during regular office hours, up to 7 says before an election (20 days for special or bond election). By-mail registration forms are placed in public buildings. Watch for the dates for candidacy filing, the primary election if necessary, and the final election in November. If you would like an active part in government, file as a candidate. Everyone should know who the candidates are, and their ideas on city issues. Then come set a record for voting - the election judges want to see all of you! Sincerely, Election Official City Council Meeting Agenda Thursday, March 1,2001, 6:00 p.m., agenda: 1.
