This has been a year of many changes and great turmoil that has afflicted many lives. Our small community has been fortunate so far resiliently weather the looming recession. Revenues still adequately fund municipal operations within the current budget. Unfortunately, the state has not been so lucky and is cutting programs and projects to keep it budget on track. Hopefully, the economy will soon rebound and there will not be a drop in future revenue. I have renewed the road maintenance contract with Weber County to continue our road and snow removal services for next year. I also signed into law a daytime curfew ordinance passed by the council that allows law enforcement officers to cite youth who sluff school. This ordinance was recommended to us at the gang awareness night to help curb daytime crime by juveniles who should be in school. Farr West recently enacted a similar law, and the unincorporated county is presently considering a version based upon our ordinance. It is my pleasure to introduce our first Community Resource Office, Deputy Sheriff Ray Day. Deputy Day is assigned to Marriott-Slaterville to assist the community with any concerns and to help us establish public safety programs like neighborhood watch. Deputy Day has an office in the city hall so feel free to contact him there. It is my wish that each of you enjoy the holidays this year.
