Show MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE CITY HISTORY AUGUST 2001 August was a busy month of continuing activities of the Marriott-Slaterville Park Committee. They visited the International Peace Gardens in Salt Lake on August 9. Regina Smout visited Thanksgiving Point on August 9, and has contacted Dave Anderson of the USU Botanical Gardens. He offered to help the committee in any way he can. Melinda Redman gave a verbal report on the St. George Park. Lynette Deru reported that the Ogden Nature Center representative highly discouraged building fire pits. August 31 was the deadline for the return of the Community Survey which will be evaluated by the committee. Countless hours of work has been performed in the park by volunteer Darrell Mecham. He has removed loads of trash and brought in toads of top soil. He has cut down dead trees, trimmed live trees into improved shapes, removed many trash brush/trees, and cleaned around the designated wetland. This provides access to it so that the Mosquito Abatement trucks can carry out their spray program. He has leveled the area, and filled in manmade depressions. Steve Mecham has worked extensively with him. A Night of Music at the Marriott Park was held on August 6, 2001, at that Park, commencing at 6:30 p.m. It featured original songs by Shawn Holley, line dancing with Trudy Slater and Lynette Deru, and Phil, Randall, Jake and Tyler, the Same All Around Rock Band. The Roberts Running Rebels were the champions at the 2nd Annual Field of Dreams Softball Tournament on August 2 and 3, 2001. It was a close, exciting game at the Slaterville Park, with the final score of 11 to 10. Thanks to Trudy Hill and to local businesses who donated prizes! Council member Rob Smout and Alan Brown, with help from the city staff, are getting the city website updated. Those with internet capabilities can find information about the City, its activities, and those people involved in making the City operate. The website is www.mscity.net. The email address is mscity@webpipe.net. Another UDOT transportation meeting was held which Councilman Orvil Holley attended. With the exception of West Weber, no other community was represented. This would seem to indicate that other area communities no longer expect their area to be impacted by Legacy Highway in the future, which does not appear to be good news for our city. |
