Show MARRIOTT-SLATERVILLE CITY HISTORY June 2007 An Evening of Music at the Park scheduled at the Marriott Park on June 22, 2007, was cancelled. Two further "Evenings" will take place on July 21 and August 11. Daylynn Brandley is in charge of these events. Events for the community Freedom Celebration were announced in the June issue of The Pioneer Post The celebration begins with the Ninth Annual Golf Tournament to be held at the Ben Lomond Golf Course, with tee times between 4:00 and 6:30 p.m. The cost, including green fees, is $15.00. Danny Brown is again in charge. July 3, the Little Miss Firecracker Pageant under the direction of Lori Jones, will be held at the Marriott Park at 6:30 p.m. She is also in charge of the Baby Contest on July 4th at the Marriott Park, with the time to be announced. This is for babies under 2 years old. Both events are open to Marriott-Slaterville residents only. There will be a 5K run/Walk on July 4th, with Bob Hirschi as the contact individual. There will be breakfasts held at 8:00 am. in both the Marriott and Slaterville Parks. The annual parade will begin at 10:30 am., and will go from 700 South on 1200 West to the Marriott Park. The line-up is at 10:00 am. Lunch and activities will begin at 11:00 a.m. and continue through the afternoon, also at the Marriott Park. Hamburgers and hot dogs will be on sale, with games, giant slide, candy cannons, pie eating contests, prizes, and lots of fun for the entire family. Pam Slater again will chair the celebration. At the June 21, 2007, City Council Meeting, business licenses were approved for Justin Tobias, D.D.S., 1920 West 250 North, general dental; Budds, LLC, 312 South 2025 West, concrete cutting and flatwork, and Trex Maintenance, 1983 West 150 South, lawn care and small maintenance. A resolution was passed thanking Chief Deputy Terry Thompsen for his service to the city. Mayor Keith Butler presented a copy to Chief Thompsen, commending him for the outstanding work for the city. The city received a small grant from R.A.M.P. funds for the July 4th events. A resolution was approved for this use of the grant. A closed Executive Session was held to discuss competency of personnel, and imminent and pending litigation, as part of this month's council meeting. Phone lines to the city office and all residences on 400 North were cut by an excavator in Ogden. The problem required some time for repair. Spencer Farms residents held a meeting to re-organize their CC&R committee. Mayor Butler felt that the meeting went well. Because of problems on the Chevron pipeline on 1200 West, this street could not be resurfaced before the July 4th parade, as had been hoped. Filing for candidates for the three council seats to be filled at this year's municipal election will be held from July 2 through July 16, 2007. Three city council seats are open, one seat in each district and the at-large seat. The filing fee is $5.00. The park committee will hold a public hearing on the Marriott Park and the Slaterville Park on July 18th to discuss future plans, including improvements, upgrades, and rules. |
